What does an Electrician earn?

What yearly/day/hour rate are electricians on? I'm interested more in those doing commercial site work, full time employed or full time subing. South east based. This is a starting position, not a forman or someone senior.

Having some work done at home in the SE and mentioned to the sparks who's in his mid 30's that I'd like my lad to learn a trade, he said in a good year he'll earn £50k but it's not consistent.
There are many days he'll turn up and the customers/builders aren't ready for him which means a non earning day.
He does have an apprentice who he subs out for first fixes and makes a margin out of him.

Been self employed for for 13 years and earn in the region of that most years sometimes more depending on what projects i have on. As for your sparks, i doesn't sound like he's that organised or busy if he is losing days in money or turning up with nothing to do. The secret of being successful is to plan your diary well enough as not to have gaps. Builders are the worst, telling your they will be ready next week and they are no where near. The rule i have with them is call me Monday and let me know because if i turn up and i can't crack on I'm charging you.... There is potential to earn more out there but that depends on area and being greedy. For instance i have worked in my area and a new guy has started pricing jobs that i am doing, one job i turned down due to not having time i quoted £600. Supply and fit a list board run new sub main 3M and test property. He quoted £900 and when he finished he told the old lady owner £1200.
I know this as she has vowed never to let him into her house again, Im back there now doing spotlights etc.
£1200 for a days work with probably £140 in materials is daylight robbery. He should be shot.
