Interesting thread.

I've been working as a junior buyer for a machine tools company for the last few months. I've actually been working for the company for a few years, in the tool room. (Making metal parts on lathes, milling machines, grinders etc. I've worked in engineering, although on the shop floor for the last 12 years or so). So I really know the company well, so I pretty much knew what all the parts we need in the factory, what everything is etc.

To cut a long story short the person who was the junior buyer left the company (He got a job at Honda, as a erm 'full' buyer I guess), they offered me his job and I took it. To be honest it was never a job I thought about, but I actually enjoy it now I'm doing it.

I was thinking of doing cips training, I have a HND in Mechanical engineering (also nvq's and city and guilds but its all on the trade / tools side). I'm 28, 29 at the end of the year. I left school proper at 16, and got all my other qualifications on day release, night school etc. I emailed Cips and they said I could start at this level.

But I'm just not just sure if its worth it for me in the long run. I like the idea of having a bit of paper saying I can do this, But will I get a better job, more pay etc?

It's not doing the work, studying that bothers me, its more that I'm worried it will be a waste of time and money for me.
