Ultimately - if you're happy to get into it, do it? There's a lot of pros and cons to consultancy. Prepare for the worst (think Bolton, Coventry, Merthyr Tydfil etc and Travelodge, not a flashy 5* place in a nice location) and be happy when you get a good gig. Hotel rooms do get pretty boring quick though. In 2009-2011 I was averaging over 50 nights a year travelling - nothing compared to some people, but do you want to be on the road EVERY week? I love travelling but even these days I'd probably only want to do 1 week a month really.

My flippant comment wasn't great help - apologies. That said, I still remember being sat on a plane with a load of Accenture grads off on a jolly to Chicago back in 2010. They were all absolutely amazed that I was off to see a customer on my own to fix their IPTV set up - they couldn't believe that I was working on my own as t wasn't much (24 at the time) older than they were! Plus I get to wear whatever the hell i want to work these days (although I'm no longer customer facing frown - I kind of miss this, although I've got enough internal customers these days to manage!). Suppose that's why I'm not in a suit!

Edit - I've heard very, very mixed things about IBM. A few of my friends worked there - more development than consultancy side though. A mate of mine who did a stint at Accenture enjoyed it more or less,
