Just been for an interview, heading up a small charity at a period where someone from a different background could come in and really shape the future.

4 people interviewing, 3 of them were fine but one guy just simply didn't seem to like me. Questioned much of what I said, which is fair enough and maybe there was a good cop bad cop element to the interview, but just got a feel that I wasn't the man for him. Walked out thinking I'm memorable to him for the wrong reasons, and now competing against people who could just merge into the background.

Have another interview next week and sure there's something out there for me, but am pretty deflated as looked like my dream job.

Whilst it's a shame it didn't seem to work out I'm also guessing that if you were to get the job you could end up working with the chap who appeared not to like you? Can't see that being very pleasant in the long term so you may be better off going elsewhere?

Everything happens for a reason smile

It could just be his personality or even an "interview persona". Some people like to behave like a bellend in interviews to see how you react.

I was interviewed by someone like that once. He disagreed with what I said, spoke over me, argued. They offered me the job and I turned it down because I thought the guy was a wker and didn't want to work for him. They didn't understand it.

Some don't realise that an interview is a two way street.

As other said above its not a dream job if you have to work with people you don't get on with. Don't take it personally there could have been any reason why they didn't take to you. More than likely it will be completely unrelated to you and probably because they want to give the job to the son/daughter/neighbor/dog etc. and so wont like anyone.

Hahaha, the best job I've ever had, I was there for 3 years and for two of those years, one of the managers immediately up from me in the chain didn't talk to me for more than about 10 sentences over those 2 years. He was pi$$ed with me for two years solid.

I'd planned to take a motorcycle touring holiday, but he cancelled my leave just before it happened. Not out of concern for my safety, but because if I suddenly expired it would upset his project. I snuck off and did it anyway about a month later. He found out and that's when he got pi$$ed for two years.

Anyway he wasn't actually bad to work with, even though he didn't talk to me. If you get along with most of your colleagues and your immediate manager, that is usually enough.

Even the guy who didn't talk to me, relations are back to normal now. We are Linkedin friends.

Well, I didn't get the job laugh

They had promised to let everyone know today and the CEO just called. She was very pleasant and said they all enjoyed my interview and thought I would fit in well with the team, but there was one area in particular where they felt another candidate was more suitable. It was a fantastic role which I would have loved, but onwards we go.

That's a shame but if you were going to have to work with someone who didn't like you, then it may not have so good after all.

I once interviewed for a role and got all the way through and had to have a chat (was told it was a formality) with the global director of the department.

He was rude, arrogant, condescending and picked apart everything from my choice of educational institution to subjects to companies I had worked for. I left, sure I hadn't got the job, and was shocked to get a call saying they wanted to offer me the role. I explained to the recruitment agent I couldn't work for anyone like that, even if only 10% of what he said were his true feelings.

The agent got very upset I wouldn't take the job, saying I was the only person ever in her career that had been offered and turned down a role (I've never heard from her since) and even the hiring manager tried to persuade me to accept and offered more money.

I don't regret not taking the role one bit!

Numbers game isn't it.

I've interviewed for jobs I really wanted and the guys interviewing me were dick faces. Sometimes you do get some condescending prick but fk it get up and walk out the interview. I remember one questioning how I had the experience I did at my level in my career, honestly the guy looked as though he spent his life in his mums basement and the other guy looked as though he was going through a messy divorce.

Then I've gone for interviews I wasn't that keen on from reading the job spec and ended up changing my mind in the interview when it sounded awesome.
