Have stumbled over an opportunity for an NVQ assessor in a particular financial services area that I'm experienced in. Home based with paid travel apparently.

This would very much suit my skill set and I enjoy training others etc. Anyone else work in this sector? Is it an enjoyable environment?

Interesting comments, this role is salaried and doesn't appear to have any incentive based element. Also says travel no more than an hour from my location for any visits but Iv'e no idea how many "students" I'd have to look after or how often they need visiting.

If it's not based on no. of assessments or outcomes then sounds like a winner as long as you're happy with the deal offered.

Look carefully at it to make sure it is what it appears to be would be my only comment.

I did it for a few years. I found it soul destroying tbh. I did assessors and verifiers award. Then ended up as a college lecturer on btecs and hnc. I quit and went back to industry after about 8 years. It was pretty much check their pulse and issue a certificate at the end of the year. The nvq s were not worth the paper they were written on especially at level 2. But I think it depends how old you are. It would be a good job towards the end of your career as it was so easy. Turn up to appoinments and no progress made meant early finishes sometimes. It really left me with a sour taste regarding qualifications and I certainly wouldnt want my kids doing an nvq at college as I would feel that ive failed them somewhat.
sorry for the negative rant but that was my personal experience of it and also the numerous friends i worked with who also no longer do it. All of us are now back in similar fields before we tried f.e. assessing and lecturing. Hope this gives some perspective.

I've completed several myself with first class lecturers and I've also done one which was simply a box ticking exercise.

All NVQs are wholly dependent on the quality of teaching, the content of the programme and the effort put in by those studying. And for many people they are the best option.

It's not all bad but you are right there are some terrible programmes on offer. You need to pick and choose where you study just like a University. And from a job perspective you want to be working in the right place.
