If not £60K, I'd certainly go for £55K, being prepared to accept £50K if that's as far as he will go.

On your maths £60k is £20/hr which seems like a reasonably justifiable suggestion.

Do the night security staff not still clean some of the cars down at the lodge?

I don't think you are far off going in at £60k wink
The hourly rates they have paid for contractors in previous years average out at considerably more

I was friends with a guy when I worked down in London many years ago - recently he ended up doing a few things for some people and it got noticed. Nothing serious or illegal, just happened to be in the right place at the right time and did the right thing.

Anyways he was summoned, went along and had a talk with someone he calls him the organizer. He was offered a start there and then salary was mentioned and it was around the 65k mark. The family is british. lived near london for generations and the family are involved in many things. I know the cars he gets to drive and keep clean as well as what hes asked to do, pick folks up from the airport and generally run about after them. Most of the transport is actually done in low key non descript cars taxis etc. things that dont generate interest. He has been in houses in london and surroundings that are staffed by similar people. people that get on with it. make it happen for their employers. its how it rolls.

Im pretty sure if you go in with the desired amount plus a little added for negotiation you will get what you want. Just let us know lol

It's all in the delivery. For the hours you're doing, I think £60k is easily fair. Their estate manager is brand new, you may need to help him out a bit, you've already helped out while he hasn't been there and you may be required to help out more again if he doesn't last very long. Do they really want to gamble on having to replace you as well?

They could probably get cheaper elsewhere, but will he immediately be ready to run and help out, does he know how the family works, does he have their trust? I think you're in a very good position and I think if you outline the extra things you have done and will do and the fact that the estate manager is new and may well need helping out, as you have done to date, it'll be well worth it to them to pay you an extra £10k. It's small change to them and for that, they'll get you going that extra bit and not have to worry about you running off for any other better paid jobs.

Good luck thumbup

Thanks very much wink
1st day back has been manic, but new it would and I quite enjoy the challenge. We have 15 in residence at mo!!!!
I've kept a
diary since the start and everything I do, plus time factors involved etc is listed. I've transferred the key points onto a list, and when I see him I can go through it with him in as much detail as he wants. I've also printed off some job adverts for chauffeurs and the salaries advertised for the work involved, to prove my worth, so to speak.

Just need s gap now to see him, easier said than done.

Especially after this weekend!!!
No housekeeper due to a family issue and my backup chauffeur was off today, today I started at 730am to do an airport pickup, followed by all the normal craziness and to top it off a medical emergency this afternoon!!!
If I read this as an outsider it would surely sound like bullst, but jeez, today was, well you just couldn't make it up.
I was having my lunch break at 530pm when I got called into the house with a BIG problem, (see medical forum)
1 paramedic car, 1 ambulance and an emergency trip to A & E later I now really know what I think I'm worth.
Thanks to high praise from the paramedics and ambulance crew the family are very happy with my input today.
It has no real bearing on my figure but at least the 'money' man will now here it direct from the family !!!!!
I'm knackered. Hopefully I can put my case sometime this week!

As others have already commented 60K is a good starting figure, I hope you get it as your job is a real challenging one

No need to be an absolute
He clearly enjoys it and is happy after having gone through a hard time.

What a strange reaction to an honest point of view
The OP obviously understands that many of us could not cope with that working environment plus hours worked
I admire the OP for his staying power
The OP's job that I class as a real bad one does not mean it is a real bad one for the OP or many others
I hope this explains things
Stressful, high-tempo, intense.....yes. Bad? No.

Point taken and I do put my hands up and admit that I worded my post badly

I have now edited my post to read "challenging rather than bad"

Since when has stress been good?
No stress is bad as is an extended period of high stress, but a modicum of stress will invigorate.

I hope you get the money you are aiming for and the starting point of 60K looks good to me as I consider your job to be very challenging
I also admire your staying power in a job that I would find stressful

Good luck and I apologise for classing your challenging job as a bad one

I've employed many many people over the years. The ones I 'hated' were the super competent ones who said "pay me what you think I'm worth". If you don't get it right, you can be sure one of your competitors will. So why don't you try that?

I'd be wanting around £60K too ... See it as compensation for your life, as you'll be giving up a large chunk of it! Also, bear in mind the amount of tax owed on £60K. Once over £43K, you'll be paying 40% of the remainder to the Government. It's something to consider when negotiating!
