Bit of an advise on possibility of dismissal :(

Was asked to go to the office next week for face-to-face interview after a phone interview but so far there's not been a job/role description. Is this normal? Small company though.
I would ask for a job description before going but otherwise if they don't provide it, still go to the interview.Small companies can be a blessing and a curse sometime. I remember I had 3 interviews for a £15k a year job. Joys of being 19.

Yes, definitely taking all my chances for another job opportunity. The recruiter has given very promising outlook though to justify lack of job description. Basically if I get this job it will be a 10k pre-tax pay rise.Small companies can be a blessing and a curse sometime. I remember I had 3 interviews for a £15k a year job. Joys of being 19.
With my recent luck I'm wondering if all this is too good to be true.
The company employs around 50 staff mainly office based and from what I hear they are expanding due to increase in business.

I got a 15k base pay rise going from my last job to my current one.
The one before that, when I was made redundant I got a 6k pay rise.
Totally believable.
I'm totally crossing all fingers and toes. Hope there is a way out.The one before that, when I was made redundant I got a 6k pay rise.

It's a toxic environment for me to be in now, a non-incident escalated unncesarily just because I wasn't there in person (that's the reason given). I have mobile phone and also am also online on Skype which they can easily contact if wanted to...
Hope you get it, yo never know it might be the next Apple or Microsoft and you can rise with it.
When you hand your notice in do it in person with the new manager and then tell them you are going to take every opportunity to fk up their prospects/life before you go. Don't do it obviously but the paranoia you'll create might be amusing to watch - you might even get gardening leave as he wont want you there to tell your stories.

What happens when he needs a reference in a few years time from his current employer and his previous one?
Never burn your bridges. No matter how good it will feel in the short term, it can come back to bite you. Not to mention you never know who you may meet again in the future.

Got my second interview today and things looks positive
I won't be too brash with the manager when handing my notice as I still have to serve the month's notice. However when I do get chance to hand in notice I know it will a sense of relieve for me as I don't have to face the stress and worry anymore. She claims that she is very good at managing big teams but I personally don't think so. Perhaps I should've took the hint when I first met her and she told me that she is used to making decision of who would be the poor soul to sack this month.

Wow what a day. Had a weird, negative experience with a very pushy (and borderline rude) recruiter but at least I've got a phone interview out of it.
Also had a catch up call with boss and surprisingly she sounded very jolly and positive. Also mentioned that I should expect to be very busy in few month. That old spiel
Finally on to the good news - I've basically got a job offer. Just a few minor details to nail down. Haven't got my target salary but will get it after 6 months probation. Still not too far away from target salary though so not too bad. Probably have to start car hunting again, as much as I love my M135 it's just not suitable for 88 miles daily commute but that's probably topic for another thread
I'm happy but also feel anxious. Perhaps just last few hurdles to overcome before turning a new leaf. Travelling down to HQ tomorrow for 2 days to be with boss so that will be an interesting experience. If I get all the documents sent over I might even hand in my notice face-to-face.

Dont hand your notice in until you have an unconditional offer post referencing. Good luck
What are the details of the failed project, sorry if i've missed it.
Did the project failed due to your alleged bad management of it or were there contributory factors? Budget, time, resource, deliverables??
You mentioned that you were made PM for the project, are your core skills in project management?
I'm a senior PM and in general it's not that difficult a role. Some might we we are just glorified admins .
Good luck all the same, as others have said don't just back down if you feel it's worth it. That said it might be time for a change and a fresh set of goals.
Drop me a PM if you want to talk about, erm, PM'ing

I would say it failed due to politics... But to summarise it's deliverables and towards the end of the project, budget issues. Did the project failed due to your alleged bad management of it or were there contributory factors? Budget, time, resource, deliverables??

Project Management is definitely not one of my core skills and I have no formal training on this other than stuff I pick up as I go along. Well I guess I manage projects in a way which are my own projects. They are much smaller scale than this project though.
Offer in writing received and I've now handed in my notice. Surprised boss mentioned she didn't want me to go and to have a think during the weekend in case I change my mind.
Weird experience after so many years in the industry and working in large organisation moving into completely different end of scale. However I know this is decision I have to make as the thorny issue of relocation will not go away.
Hoping if everything goes well with HR I'll be starting just after August Bank holidays

I have developed my skills in a similar way but the key thing I have learnt last few years as projects / programmes got larger / more complex / more politics / more unknowns / more stakeholders in a large corporate is you MUST get the governance and terms of reference agreed upfront. Without this in place and strong sponsorship by people who are impacted and accountable a PM can do little to deliver much. Project Management is definitely not one of my core skills and I have no formal training on this other than stuff I pick up as I go along.
