My company is looking for a full time maintenance engineer to be responsible for the upkeep of our equipment.

We have a mixture of manual machinery and automatic PLC controlled machinery, although the bias is for manual equipment.

We make, in the main, glass sprinkler bulbs on 30 chuck vertical machines (made in France by Moderne Mechanic).

There is also a requirement for some machining on a Colchester Lathe and a Bridgeport Milling machine.

We are a small profitable company based in Earls Colne, Essex.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Always have to laugh when I read that.
Roughly translated as "As little as we can get away with depending on how old you are"

Not at all, if someone has experience in the Moderne Mechanic machines then that would be very beneficial and I would pay accordingly, however if I have to teach someone then that too would be reflected.

We are only 22 persons strong so I don't really want to play games with my staff.

I'm pretty sure you'll get more applicants with a minimum starting salary.

Agreed even if its a range.

I wouldn't apply for a job that didn't state a salary of some description unless I couldn't find anything else.

I agree, I would want to know that it's more than I'm earning now before I've gone to the trouble of send all my details over.

I agree. Cannot stand job adverts that don't give at least some indication.

20 years ago before i decided to go self employed i was a tech for Philips Printed Circuits UK in Croydon.
I was in a team of 4 that built robotic machines for our production line, Trained in advanced programming for OMRON, Mitsubishi and Allen Bradley PLCs we managed to produce some great reliable machines.
We also had our own machine shop with Lathes, milling machines and various other metalwork tools so i could make pretty much anything.
I managed to end up as a senior tech looking after machines worth over £2m, we had some automatic screen printing machines which were great to watch and the 7 spindle drilling machines were hypnotic.

Still have my handheld Mitsi programmer somewhere.

Been out of the game too long now and happy doing what I'm doing.
