Applying for a host of jobs with admin and IT. Near all are stating strong skills in MS Office. I have been using MS Office for years now and used on an extensive level through university (computer science). Mostly making proper reports, spreadsheets, statistics and all that type of good stuff. I'm wondering if what they mean by "strong" is really just the sort of MSO experience I have?

My wife did the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification exams. She learnt a lot doing them and even some of the jobs requested it. Made it easier to prove she has strong MS skills.

Some have asked for that certification. I think I should maybe go for it as it will bulk up my professional development. Off to YT to seek out in depth MSO videos.

Conversely, other places I've worked have considered "strong" Office skills to include knowing how to print.

I take it as being able to use Word and Excel without assistance.

I have worked for a few companies that use structured Spreadsheets (including calculations etc) and they want you to be able to use/edit them (or create similar) without continuous coaching.

I am yet to see a Spreadsheet used in Industry that is more advanced than anything you would learn at A-Level ICT.

So I got a new job and just started today. Their version of strong Excel skills is basically being able to do basic maths such as averages in it.
