At the moment I am working for a large national building company as a assistant site manager. I've been doing the role for just over a year. When I started the role I came straight off the tools into the site office, late last year I started to realise that it might not be a career for me and find it quite boring. I am wanting to go back on the tools but as a self employed bricky/general builder. Has anyone here made a similar move as I'm wondering what the best way to go about it is. I am thinking the best way is to go with a company as a subby. I have 12years experience as a bricklayer so moving into an office roll was bit of a shock.

If you are "going with a company" - how can you be self employed?

As a sub contractor. You can work for a company as a self employed subby.
