Plenty of websites claim it has health implications.(?)
Most implications come from lack of sleep, eg: not going to bed after the last night or before the first night. I aim for 8 hours sleep in any 24 during my shifts and I'm going OK so far.No problems on first night.
After my last night, I get 4 hours sleep, until about 1 o'clock.
Then the rest of the day as normal, and normal bed time
Similar to OP, I work a 8:30-5 Office job.
An opportunity has arisen where I'd be working 8:00-20:00 and 10:00-22:00, 4 on, 4 off.
I personally think this shift pattern really does appeal, as I can work on Accreditations and Awards whilst off.
However, the fact of working weekends when the family/my pals are all off sounds rather naff.

I did 4on/4off for years. Great for the family men who could spend time with their children etc but for me (I started when I was 19) it was crap. An opportunity has arisen where I'd be working 8:00-20:00 and 10:00-22:00, 4 on, 4 off.

Having Monday - Thurs off when everyone else is working is useless, ended up either sitting in the house or going to the pub on your own.
The only plus side is if your car needs an MOT or you have a Drs appointment, going through the day was fine. No need to rush and get everything done after work....
