I had a strange call today - number from Malta and a well spoken English guy, saying he was based in Malta and asking me if I was interested in a customer facing job selling financial product.

A choice of 70 countries, but he couldn't give me any more details and said I had to join a webinar at a certain time next Wednesday to get the details.

Pushed a little, he said that relocation was an option and last year their top sellers earned on average "six figures".....

I politely told him it was too vague - he said he was new so didn't know the full details. Right.

Sounds like some sort of scam - I was tempted to go on the webinar just to see how the scam worked - I once went to one of those confident auctions in the early noughties to see how they worked and was amazed how gullible many people are and how amazing these scammers controlled the gullible.

Any one know anything about this?

The very best outcome is you are recruited as an accomplice in a boiler room scam or advanced fee fraud. It is however much more likely you are the intended victim of some form of employment advanced fee fraud.

It could well be a role cold calling expats trying to set up meetings for 'advisors' to sell them unregulated financial products and advice that are generally unsuitable for the client, but pay massive fees to the selling agency.

Exactly the people I had in mind. I didn't link to them because they get very litigious with forums that are not wholly complimentary towards them.

My daughter's BF had a job like this but based in Geneva. He had to secure appointments with HNWs, mostly ex-pats, for his collegues to handle. It was all results based and sounded dodgy to me. However he went for it and did quite well earning at least Eu5000+ per month and receiving other incentives. The owners of the business were English and appeared to look after the staff once they had proved themselves. The lad was diligent and hard working so I am not surprised it worked out.

You know that checkout cashiers earn CHF 4K (€3.7k) per month in Switzerland and that fresh grads in a bank earn CHF 7k a month? Earning that (for Switzerland that little) money for putting the hard sell on people for generally unsuitable and unregulated products doesn't seem so great to me.

I logged into the Devere group recruiting WebEx a while ago and I found the CEO a fascinatingly arrogant tt... I'm not sure who goes for these types of jobs, but I imagine it could / should only appeal to an impressionable young person looking for some 'life experience'.

I also guess that it's a commission only role so you're very likely (certain?!) to loose money rather than earn any.

This is all without mentioning the poor old / vulnerable people that are targeted to part with their savings as I can't imagine any successful intelligent person would do so.

In summary: a cunch of bunts, avoid.

Indeed, Swiss salaries astonish me, especially in light of the current fx rate. I am paying admin people in excess of 7k per month.

had the same call and although I am looking I've not bothered with this (did a little googling and the consensus is not unanimously positive). IIRC there is a youtube vid of said CEO in action if you're interested in having a looksee

Yes I was aware of pay rates. The point in this instance was that it was a bona fide role and he was more than covering his costs within two months of starting. The lad had no qualifications beyond Gcse. I think they promoted him after 6 months so his money will have taken a hike. He's no longer with my daughter but I could see he was determined and he had a very phone manner which is crucial in these jobs.

Ah yes, but if he as even the slightest modicum of a moral backbonem, he will not sleep well ever again. He has sold his soulto the devil (called Green), whose moralless empite has cost me personally over 100K in costs and lost business, lost friends and stress. What an utter C**T the man is.
