We had such a great response last year when I posted up a similar job, I hope people don't mind me putting another message up. This is a genuine job my company is recruiting for and it is perfect for someone who has always wanted to work with cars, but has never managed to crack into the industry:

____________________________________________________________________________

CAR FINDER POSITION

£22,000

Based in Ealing, West London

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Love of cars
- Great communication skills
- Good negotiator

Previous motor industry experience is NOT required.

COMPANY DETAILS:

Based in Ealing, west London, Palmdale was established 10 years ago with one goal - to enable ANYBODY to get a fair deal on buying a new or used car.

Everything we do revolves around this principle and our clients are typically people who do not feel comfortable buying a car themselves because they fear they will either end up with a bad car, a bad deal… or both.

Additionally, some of our clients are busy professionals who just do not have the time to source a car for themselves. Our goal is always to secure the best possible car at the best possible price without the client doing ANY of the work.

You can find out more about how we do this on our website – www.palmdale.co.uk

THE ROLE

We need someone who can complete a very comprehensive car search given the specific criteria set by our clients.

You will need to search out every car available in the UK, enquire with the dealers or sellers of these cars to ensure that they are of the best possible quality and negotiate on the price.

After that you will need to pick the best 3 to 4 cars, and put them into an easily-readable shortlist.

Don’t worry, we’ve been doing this for a while and have processes in place to help you through and can even offer some tips on how best to negotiate.

But it’s important to be aware that around 50% of your time will be spent on the telephone to car dealers and sellers and so you have to know that you will enjoy this.

In addition some of your time will involve the less exciting, but crucial administration work. This will involve a variety of tasks such as car data checks, organising supplemental work on the cars you find, invoicing and more basic office management tasks.

CRITERIA

The person we are looking for should have the following skills… in this order too:

1) You must be a car nut – all Palmdale employees are car-obsessed. But as well as being happy to talk about Ferraris, Bentleys and classic Mustangs, you need to have a genuine love for all cars… even the Volkswagen Polo (of which we source quite a few!).

2) Great communication – you will be speaking with all manner of car dealers, some of whom will tell you the truth, some of whom will not. It’s imperative that you have the ability to read between the lines and find the truth.

3) You must be very detail orientated – the devil is in the detail, and one tiny misinterpretation of a seemingly inconsequential bit of data can make the difference between a good car and a bad car.

4) Negotiation – we’re paid to save our clients money so it’s important that you can bargain hard when necessary.

5) Organisation – you will be handling a variety of different projects at different times, often under pressure

6) Process orientated – everything we do is governed by a process that will need to be followed precisely.

It is important for all candidates to appreciate that there is one thing we don’t need – motor industry experience. This is a rare chance to get into the car industry without car industry experience.

By joining Palmdale you will be joining a small but growing team of car nuts. We will need you to be committed, tenacious, robust, enthusiastic, flexible and have a can-do attitude. In return we offer an exciting and supportive work environment… and one where you get to work with cars!

APPLICATION PROCESS

To apply, please send a copy of your CV along with your answer (in no more than 100 words) to the following question:

“If you could arrive at an interview in a car that most represented your personality, which one would it be and why?”

Please email both these items to jobs@palmdale.co.uk or submit via: http://jobview.monster.co.uk/v2/job/View?JobID=172...

The closing date for applications is 09:00 Friday 10 October.

We regret that due to the number of applications that we are expecting for this role, we will only be contacting short-listed individuals. I’m very sorry but we will not be able to answer any queries regarding this role directly and can only accept applications as described above.

The first stage will be a telephone interview, following which, if you are successful, we will ask you to complete an online personality questionnaire and to attend a half-day assessment process at our premises in west London 17 October.

Thanks for the input - good points!

Normal-ish office hours. Usual pension as is required nowadays. No medical. No selling in the job... so no selling bonus. ;-)

But, for those over 25 there is a selection of vaguely interesting cars to borrow whenever they want.

London is too far for me sadly. Tell me when you open a place in Glasgow! biggrin

Honestly its nice to see this kind of stuff on here, with the amount of 'powerful director' types on PH it might be worth actually having a forum for advertising car jobs.

Yep... a Glasgow office seems like it would be easy to staff! All in good time...

Thanks for the positive feedback. Good idea too!
