Alternately, is the manager older and less attractive? If so, prepare for a long and protracted attempt to gradually erode your OH's confidence by picking her apart piece by piece, starting with her perfume.
I fear this could be part of the problem, maybe a large part. My OH is very particular in ensuring her hair and makeup are right, with perfume being part of that. Her manager, however, is not like that... Edited by PorkInsider on Tuesday 25th October 09:24

If someone at work suggests you're wearing too much perfume then.....you're wearing too much perfume.
thisIt would drive me mad stuck in an office with an OTT perfumer, no doubt plenty of others have thought it too much but not said anything, or just avoided being too close

Turn it around a bit. Should anyone have to put up with someone else's body odour? It's still an offensive smell to most people. Perfume or body odour it's not as if you have a choice but o inhale it. IMHO it's akin to selfish smokers who impose their stink on you.
+ 1 - can't see why that's not readily understood at the outset.
