Im not bothered if im paid, but i cant have a day off without prior agreement and thats only if there is space for me to have that date off

That's normal for most people though. They have their leave approved in advance. If it's unplanned then generally it's due to illness or family emergency. Then the Company may retrospectively allocate holiday against, mark it as unpaid parental leave etc.
