Apologies if Ive missed it, but from what I have read it seems to have jumped from your boss to HR with no mention of his superior. What is your bosses boss like? Are they best buddies and is there not much point involving, is he/she aware of the issue.
I had conversations with my manager that went nowhere. So escalated.

I don't think my boss and his boss are buddies. I think that my boss just seems to be able to bull poop his way through anything and everything.

My boss also has time away a lot, so it's difficult to speak to him sometimes.

I wouldn't walk out...why eat into your savings. Coast along and do what's needed while looking for the next job.

I won't. However unbearable it is. smile

I had a tonne of work to do this afternoon. Whilst getting on with it, some calls came into the helpdesk. I asked my manager if he could look at them. He said ok. Then went to sleep for about 15 minutes. Needless to say, he didn't look at them.

Do you think you might get blamed for the non response to the help desk enquiries? A bit of email arse covering might be in order. Was told this in a former company. If you're asked to do something that doesn't seem right confirm it back by email using terms such as 'just to clarify' or in the case of the helpdesk jobs just say 'thanks for taking on those 2/3 enquiries for me whilst I was busy doing X' . You then have evidence when he tries to blame you. I'd also film him on your phone sleeping on the job (make sure you've got timed evidence so he can't claim I just closed my eyes for a moment and was thinking. If you can gather many instances of it you might have him by short ones.

I would film him, but I seriously doubt anyone would care to see the footage. We work in a big open plan office and no end of people walk past when he sleeps at his desk (he does it nearly every day).

Also, I sent him some stuff over email last Friday which he hasn't looked at. There was some stuff from this morning over email that he hasn't bothered with either. It's really odd because I don't think anybody actually cares.

It's not a nice place to work as there are some seriously unhappy people there. I muddle through, but because we have a new system due, my training on the old one has stopped. Also, I'm not getting any time on the new one as I'm chasing around after old system issues most days.

What is this new system? Why can't you read up on it? Have you had a 'play' with it? Tried to learn it yourself?

Reading your posts, it comes across as if you're not very proactive, waiting to be told or shown what to do. Maybe this is how you are perceived by your colleagues and the manager. They have just stuck you out of harms way as they don't have the time to deal with you.

Also beware of HR, their main interest is looking after the company, employees come second!

I am proactive. The only reason I am still in the role is because I have been trying to learn.

The problem is, ive been dumped on a very busy helpdesk. The current system was new to me when I joined. Ive been picking stuff up, but there is always something new to learn.

I have been looking at and playing with the new system. Ive started writing reports on it. Trouble is, my colleagues now work on the new system so ive been left maitaining the old one.I do not get much time on the new one due to the demands of the old one.

Update, if anyone is interested. smile

Gained access to new system. Main job takes 75% of my time, so I don't get long on it. I asked the other day to be involved and take some of the setup tasks on. I was told there is nothing for me to do. frown

On call seems to be changing with me doing more. Used to share a weekend with another colleague. That colleague has changed role. Manager now expecting me to cover one whole weekend on my own, while him and my other colleague do a day each. Thing is, I didn't even know this had happened last weekend. I connected on the Sunday to find Saturday's jobs to be completed too.

He also wants me to cover boxing day, despite this weekend being his and her (other colleague) weekend. I said no (as my contract excludes bank holidays), so he told me I have to cover all of new year on my own. Jeez.

Been trying to have a weekly one to one with him as stipulated by HR a few weeks ago. He told me not to book anything as he is busy, then on Monday emailed me asking why I haven't booked anything. I then tried to book a meeting twice this week. On both occasions he told me was busy.

Oh well. Let's hope the new year brings a new opportunity. smile
