Hi,

Is it worth considering for dental plan benefit? My new employer is offering this benefit, now sure how much tax i will have to pay on this.

Does anyone know how much tax i would be paying on this benefit? I am in 40% bracket.

I would assume your employer should be able to tell you this based on their knowledge of what the plan/benefit is worth to you wink

You would pay at your marginal tax rate whatever the premium is. Think of it as a heavily discounted rate on what would otherwise be available to you as a private retail customer.

How bad are you teeth? If you're an NHS patient, a course of treatment is what, £50ish including the checkup and the filling/root canal/removal? If you need crowns doing then it may be worth it.

My teeth are not bad but mrs has a lot of problems and recently gone through extensive NHS treatment, done by one of the recommended dentist. I wish he had a clinic near by. We had to travel 2 hrs one way to see him but it was worth seeing him.

I used to see dentist every 6 months but now i don't see them anymore because now a days its very hard to find honest dentists. Every time you see them they will either find fault in your tooth or take the old filling out and put the new one to make money. Its very rare they will tell you 'your teeth are okay', there is always something there for them.

I always take second opinion when dentist tells me that my tooth need filling. I don't want someone to drill my tooth without genuine reason.

Coming back to my main topic, i do have one crown which needs replacing next year. It was fitted 5 yrs ago because i lost my front tooth because of dentist fault. He filled my tooth with white cement and it came off after few days, my tooth got decay and i lost the tooth after dentist try to remove the decay.

How the dental insurance is profitable for insurance companies because normally everyone sees dentist twice a month and they normally spend £40 to £70 (lets say one visit require filling) a year. If monthly insurance is £6.28 a month then its loss for insurance company?

I think it would be a lot worth if dental hygienist is also covered in dental plan.
