For the last 3 years and I have worked in field sales. Towards the end of last year they implemented some organisational changes which have directly affected me. There was a threat of redundancy but I was fortune enough to get an internal vacancy.

If I'm honest I don't really like the company and do not agree with changes they have made. They are also the worst paid in the industry and I kind of feel that they try to take advantage of us by lumping on the work but not the pay. This has affected me badly as I no longer have any pride in the job and don't go the extra mile. This is not how I pictured myself 3 years after graduating from university.

I have promised myself that 2017 is going to be a positive year and I will get myself a new job regardless. Nothing is on the horizon at the moment and it's imperative that I keep working as I don't want to be unemployed.

Any advice/techniques I can use to help motivate me for my remaining time there ?

Thanks

One assumes you're in regular contact with your line manager and that he's aware of how you're feeling? If so, then one assumes you together could come up with a plan of action for the next 12 months that is designed to re-energise you?

If they're not aware; this should be your first step.

In conjunction with this you should always keep an eye on the market looking for your next opportunity, ensuring your CV and CPD are up to date so that you can react quickly.

Good luck!

When i have found myself in a similar position, Surviving the next few months was so much easier once I was twigged that I wanted out and started the process of letting the RCs know I was looking. It meant I could play the game but check out at the same time.

In a number of sectors recruitment is very quiet during January and tends to pick up after that. Good luck with the job hunt or trying to make it work better for you.

Thanks guys for the input. Unfortunately I cannot really speak up about my feelings to my boss as something else is going on and I'm really suspicious of them. I have a feeling more redundancies are coming up so don't want to highlight myself to them. I am also aware that their job is uncertain so the stress of that too doesn't help. The company don't like employees talking up so you need to ask like a "nodding dog" for everything they say.

Over the festive break I updated my cv and got it ready for distribution. I have a gut feeling that I will have something else in the next few months.

3 years in your first job after uni is no bad stint. With a carefully chosen next move you should learn more and earn more. It's no bad thing to experience different companies during your early career.

I'm sure you didn't do your degree in sales so might this be an opportunity to get back into something related to your degree?

Thanks for the replies it is much appreciated. Yes i am still at the experimental part of my career so it does no harm to try new things. I have tried customer service (never again), retail (not for me) and field sales (yes it could be for me but with a better company). My job involves going into shops and trying to get the company i represent additional space. The job comes under field sales but i am more inclined to class it as merchandising. It can be very long days if i cannot get any work to do and the targets are unrealistic.

The problem i have with doing something related to my degree is there is an extreme lack of jobs that i feel would be suitable. When i graduated i applied to many graduate schemes but when these have 7 stages it gets tedious. When i compare myself to others on my course, i seem to have do well for myself as some of them still don't have jobs or work part time in supermarkets. Part of that is people lose hope in finding something and the other part is down to bad luck.

Dont know why people are scared of redundancy to be honest, every time it's happened to me it's been a blessing and something much more positive has come out of it. It's many times better than being fired, which has also happened to me quite a bit.

If the option of voluntary redundancy comes up, and you were already looking for another job, what's up with that? You can definitely hunt for something new right now, today, in your own time.

What are you passionate about in life?

If you're only 3 years out of Uni and presumably with a relatively low salary and few fixed responsibilities, then now is the best opportunity you'll ever have to at least try and follow a dream, rather than drifting into something, getting 15 years down the road and finding out you're stuck with a mortgage, needing your salary, and not being able to find anyone willing to put the time and money into helping you retrain.

Indeed. Leave (with payout), or leave (no payout). Oooh, lemme think.

Just keep playing the game - tell them you are a team player etc. but keep looking for another job until you get your break.

Start looking and go!

I've been doing a lot of thinking recently, I have in a cracking job, really good money, excellent benefits but I am just not happy, the politics is BS, the environment toxic and our VP is next to useless so the internal bickering is only getting worse and driving a wedge between the supposed "teams".

I have already started looking, no one, unfortunately, will match my German salary. but money isn't the be all and end all, I've been here 10 years now (28) and I feel its ran its course.

As long as I can afford to keep my Vantage ill be moving back, selling my houses and moving to my new job, , the grass isn't always greener, but at least you can try and not wonder what would have been!

Thanks for the input. I will solider on until I get something else but the fact that I've made the decision to leave makes it easier to tolerate. I've just lost all interest in it so to motivate myself I've been thinking of the cash.

Small update on this. One month into this new job role and I am hating it. There is no work for us to do at the moment so we can basically driving all over the place for nothing. I was told I would be trained but this has not happened. Seems to be the norm with this company these days.

I am so bored it is unreal and my colleagues feel the exact same way. I cannot get out my bed in the morning and try break up my day by driving long distances. Sadly there is nothing on the horizon yet for getting out of here. The market is really quiet for similar jobs at the moment (partially due to brexit).

I just feel that I am wasting my time working here and I know I could do so much better. I will 100% stick it until I get something else as I would miss the income. I just hope that I get out of here very soon.

Unless you're flogging European Work Visas, chuff off with the Brexit malarkey.

Missus does field merching, and there's loads out there. Widen horizons, try different industries, look at agencies like Reach and Cosine.

Thanks for the reply. I have a list of agencies including the two you mentioned which I look at everyday. I think I'm going to need to widen my horizons and try out something else for the time being
