LFW - writing/copywriting or specialist automotive

As title says, looking for work in either of the specified fields.
Writing background first. Besides the stuff I currently do for PH and totalkitcar magazine I've had over 10 years freelance experience and had numerous articles published in magazines in the UK, USA and Australia. Have also worked for a local newspaper.
Also a trained copywriter and have done freelance work for a number of agencies.
Automotive field. Originally from engineering background (mechanical draughtsman) and have years of hands-on experience building and modifying cars. Also involved in building and developing prototype off-road buggy and most recently doing road legal conversions on quads.
Based in Midlands but happy to relocate.

Blimey Graham, a top man like you should have no probs finding work and you will relocate too so that makes you even more employable!!!
It might sound pretty obvious but seeing as you put your writing first have you looked through every motor mag going and sent your CV off to all of them. Make it FAO the editor, and if he/she is looking they'll either contact you direct or if they are a big enough mag they would get their personel dept on the case. A few days later follow-up with a phone call to find out if there is any feedback/interest. Don't wait to get written replies otherwise you will be waiting forever, be assertive!! If you can, email your CV as that is the quickest way, snail mail is caca.
You have got to mass market yourself to as wide an audience as possible and i see that as the best way forward. I have been in the same boat and this is the way i always got interviews and excellent job offers.

P.S. I have been in recruitment for nearly 20yrs and currently run my own recruitment company so in my professional opinion the above is exactly what i would do no matter what the job was. Do some homework then Rock and Roll!!!

Have probably contacted most UK car mags at some time in the past about freelance work but just had the usual 'no thanks' reply - or in some cases no reply at all.
Currently collecting rejection slips for local jobs but have an interview on Friday for short term writing work so I'll see how that goes. Another rejection slip probably...
