If you speak with an HMRC Technical Advisor, do they make notes about things you say in your personal details?

If a general query, more than likely not.

If you are giving them a specific piece of information so that they should update their records, then I would like to think they do.

In reality of course, what happens is that the recipient of the call DOES nake a note but it takes forever for their system to be updated or it may not get updated at all or one section of HMRC DOES get updated but other sections don't.

Dunno about physically putting pen to paper but calls are recorded!

Funny how they can never remember the fact that you told them something when you phone up to complain that the information you gave them previously has not been acted upon.

Recording phone calls is all well and good but totally pointless if they can't access the recordings or no one bothers to update their data base with the information given in those phone calls.

Retention of data is a waste of time if

a) no one can access the data

b) no one wants to BOTHER accessing the data

c) no one acts on the data

No.

I asked for transcripts of all calls made from 3 phone numbers between two dates, and when I got the CD's of the recordings, there was only about 3/4 of the calls there.

Asked again, and there were no other calls recorded, even though I could prove the calls had been made.
