Hi Alistair,

I realise your post is but if you are still looking for trade plate drivers in the West Midlands then I'd like to express my very strong interest.

I'm 55 years old and held a driving license for 37 years which is 100% clean. I'm an avid Jag lover and currently drive a 'S' type but really prefer XJ's.

Let me know if you are still looking for drivers and whether I fit the bill.

Regards
Pete

Hi Pete,
Sorry, but we have a full allocation and about 2 dozen people already waiting for a vacancy to appear as it is.

Hi Coxy914
Irrelevant to your situation but I am now waiting for an 'application pack' to arrive in the post. At no time was self-employed mentioned, and there was promise of no hitch-hiking etc as drivers are ferried between jobs. I live in Oxford and the team is set up for drivers to need to travel to Carterton (not many miles from me). It was mentioned that there could be very early starts (doesn't bother me) My application was to an agency, based in Sheffield. I have read some horror stories on a few fora, so I am a bit cautious. I was told pay is £6.25 ph. I am now officially retired (for the fouth time!) and not too keen on getting back into a self-employed scenario, as I was for several years when I was couriering, though I suppose it may not be the end of the world. Lack of hol & sick pay doesn't really bother me but I will deffo not part with any money up front (from afore-mentioned horror stories!)

ETA: just called them back and it is not self-employed.

A bit confused now (the paperwork didn't arive in the post today like I thought it would...) I have had another look on the 'net and the majority of Trade Plate job ads state 'this is self-employed'. But the company I am going for does not state self-employed in any of their ads across the UK. (Forde if I may name them) The girl on the phone yesterday was pleasant and clear in that it is not a self-employed role that I have applied for. I suppose I will have to wait and see what is in the blurb and CAREFULLY read the small print esp in the matter of expenses etc....

Most are self employed basis and very few pay an hourly rate unless you were employed direct by a main dealer or auction as your duties would include moving cars, plus other things like sweeping the floor or running a yard brush over the courtesy car!
The only Forde I know are Forde Recruitment who are not a trade plate driving company as such.
They are just a recruitment company, although they might be recruiting for A N other company??
I have had a couple of requests from them in the past for work, but have a good database now of reliable drivers and also plenty more waiting to start work.

Thanks Coxy914 - yes, it is Forde Recruitment - we will see what comes in the post....

ETA - on the phone she said it was for leasing & auction vehicles. At Minster Lovell, very near Carterton, is West Oxfordshire Auctions. Gives me a kind of clue.

(edited yet again for spelling - 3 cans of 7.5% lager - gawd....)
