Guys,

Can anyone help me. I wanted to apply for the Wind Farm Service Technicians for Siemens (Gwynt-y-Mor/RHYL)that is currently advertised on Renewable UK but when I click on the link it has now expired. Does anyone know if they are still accepting applications for this post or could someone forward my CV on?

Thanks,

Jake
Well, thats a bit of an arse !

I was going to get an application fired in this weekend after the completion of a couple of courses this week.

At a guess, I would say they have been inundated with apps and have stopped receiving/pulled the ad for the time being and would probably throw it back up again at some point in the future (I hope)

@escargot: Hi, I have been looking at work offshore and on turbines. I have done an advanced modern apprenticeship in Aircraft and component maintenance and repairs. I applied in 2009 for a job with Siemens ready for coming out of the RAF. I was accepted for a job, but the RAF wouldn't allow me to leave! I am trying to get into the offshore more than anything and was wondering if you could help or point me in the right direction!

Many thanks.

Hi Capita,

Yes it was only up for a week and I was making some amendments to my CV and Cover Letter then went to apply and it had gone. The link is still on Renewable UK but no longer on the Siemens Site. I have sent Renewable UK an e-mail to see if they can give me any contact details for the Role. If you hear anything can you let me know?

Thanks,

Jake

I know a guy who's a Siemens level 3 (self funded), who has RUCKS of onshore WT experience who applied for that and got turned down. No idea what's going on at Siemens. He'd have been absolutely spot on for it too.

Yeah will do - from other stuff ive looked at before its always been chris bell as the recruiter for the service tech positions, but I dont know if he is for GYM, the recruitment team number is on Siemens website somewhere so give them a call and speak with one of the team or try and get to speak to the recruiter for the GYM service tech slots - Like I said, I would speculate that they were swamped with apps so pulled the add while they sorted through, they were recruiting for 35 techs for a wind farm thats not built yet so I'd expect they will open it again at some point.

I know a guy who did get an app submitted, hes about 18 month exp on & off shore so be interested to see if he gets an interview - He has had an interview with siemens before and a job offer, out of the 10 blokes at the interview he had previous, he was the only none ex forces so IIRC you were ex forces also?

I applied for the Siemens advert and was told last friday that I had been unsuccessful. I put that down to having no experience in the industry. Im in the same boat as Sootyhands - Im an Avionics tech in the RAF and Im in my final 2 years so Im looking at my resettlement options to give myself the best chance of getting into the industry. Working away from home doesn't bother me as Ive been doing it for the last ten years and Ive worked at sea with the Navy.

Escargot - is there any chance I can pm you for some advice?

Yes I was an Electrical Engineer for the Navy. I have made some amendments to my CV since I applied for the Dong job as I believe it was not generic enough and contained too much specific detail that recruiters with no forces background would understand.

I looked through the website but couldn’t find a contact number but will look again now I know there is one.

The GYM site would be ideal for me as I am originally from the area and want to re-locate back there to spend more time with my family.

Have you spoken to the recruiters about the positions there?

Hi Escargot,

Would it be possible for you to have a quick scan over my CV and see what you think? I sent one off to Dong but got rejected so I have amended it and would like someone who is involved in the Offshore Wind department to check it before I try with another position.

Thanks,

Jake

Jake I wouldn't read too much into not getting an interview for that job tbh, don't let it bother you.

Hi Jake,

I have only just come across this site. I am also after a similar role as yourself. I was wondering when was the Dong job that got rejected actually advertised??

Application deadline was early to mid dec IIRC, the positions have been filled & successful candidates started early Feb.

Thanks for the information.

By the sounds of it, you have inside knowledge?? Are you one of the candidates?? Or already work for Dong??

Unfortunately not!

Ive just spent many a long hour researching the WTG industry and generally stalking everyone I come across who works in the industry, just stumbled across the info Re: the dong slot a short while back - worth registering on their recruitment site though as there are regular vacancies in one form or another, just not been many turbine tech vacancies lately.

Hi Ste,

Sorry for the late reply. As Capita said it was around the beginning of December last year. It would have been ideal for me but never mind. There are plenty of sites in North Wales too if you would be willing to do some commuting if you are from the Liverpool area?

Hi Jake,

Yeh, from the liverpool area, so anything around the north west really. I know someone off Barrow at the mo, but they have just taken on. Typical timing off for me!

Did dong give you any clue of why you got rejected?? Just trying to smarten up my CV and am trying to figure out what people want to see and dont want to see.

Despite what you may have been led to believe, the basic "job" is mechanical, nuts and [very big] bolts.

Deep diagnosis is mostly electrical, but done at a higher level than the "job".
Problem being most higher levels, right now, are mech based and rely on their turbine time to sort stuff.

This and the attempts to drag the industry, across the board, up by the bootlaces causes difficulties, most ex forces can spot a dhead straight away!!!!

Please note that in the industry the term "dhead" doesn't carry the same inference as it would outside and can be a form of greeting when you are either 30 km offshore of 300' up at -27C windchill!!

A chap told me that Siemens were now looking for qualified sparks and mechanics in their recruitment windows rather than turbine techs who have a bit of experience but not the quals - kind of ties in with what you & escargot have posted, **And i would also guess if true that the O&M's would also have to be taking on 'qualified' personal in the relevant area (elec or mech) as when working on Siemens projects, Siemens would possibly start knocking back staff without the relevant quals** Thats just a pure guess BTW, but cant see them wanting to take on qualified techs themselves and then have unqualified but experienced O&M techs.

Regarding CV's, I keep feeling like I need to change mine as i'm not having a great deal of success - yet Ive had good to very positive feedback regarding my CV, but I don't get interviews. Ive had good comments and feedback regarding my experience, training & qualifications, ive got the job specs for a couple of jobs ive applied for/interested in and made sure every requirement was met......and still naff all frown
