Hi, yep 24k basic is about right, but gets up lift with offshore bonus and overtime, and if yout traveling tech you get £26-£30 day on top so soon mounts up, and now if you sign up to do certin amount of overtime a month you will get extra again, so by the time all this is on top start up could be £30k-£32k starting
its worth putting in 12 months or as long as it takes graft to get to level 7, as can be LOT !!! more then..
cheers

Afternoon mate, I'm currently in my 6 wks training, does the new contract still include the 25% uplift for offshore? I'm a travelling tech and found the info we were given was a bit vague when it came to travelling techs.

the progress can depend on site and lads you work with from what i can gather.
as the level 7's sign you off on jobs from what i can gather.

The same one as you mate, but obviously that will all be changing in January. I'll pop in to HR.

Anyone on here work for RE Power? Or any Turbine Techs know of other companies in the Lancashire area? Im another Electrician seriously looking to get into this field and trying to find out, like a few others, if paying for your own courses is worth it when applying for companies other than Siemens.

Any help is most appreciated! Cheers, Steve

Your best bet about the 'proposed' contractual changes is to contact the HR department, and they will likely explain all.

Its 5 days long, and involves wiring up control box and a basic hydraulic system, they put a load of faults on the system in the week, and you find them with help from the instructors.
you have a final test end of the week, which you fault find on your own.

I'm an offshore travelling tech mate. Only in my third wk of training. From what I can gather all Siemens tech will be better off money wise, but annualised hours means a lot more flexibility will be expected.

offshore tech could be bit worse off,
as they will get plenty of weather days and then owing days back due to been sent home or call the night before saying not to come in, but you get paid for agreeing to this.
as for the contract looks like going to kick in jan 2013.

Not sure how its going to work for travelling techs with us being away from home. I found the info we were given a bit vague tbh especially in regards the travelling techs. I did notice you would only lose 4 hours from the 'bank' if the job was weathered off though, not too good when you have to sit in a hotel all day!! We got the same info you guys had sent last wk, looks like a done deal for Jan.

Thanks for that ! Is it quite a good course ?

I found the level 2&3 pretty interesting as I don't have a vast knowledge on turbines.

Sorry to jump in at a late stage on this subject. I'm currently a comms engineer with the RAF, i've got 18 months to serve until completion of my 22 years. I have a resettlement package available to me but after many hours on google i'm struggling to find any courses to start working towards a career as a wind turbine tech. I'm based in lincolnshire and would be able to do evening college or possibly some day release courses but don't know which are the best options as I don't want to waste my resettlement time and money doing the wrong courses. Given my location I am interested in this future career as there is a lot of investment in the humber area. Any advice please?

thanks in advance
