Technically yes... Trainee is as you would expect. No knowledge at all.

I meet a lot of new technicians and their background is very mixed. Some are straight out of the army, others are lift engineers.

I would suggest applying and seeing how you get on. The competition is very tough though, there is a lot of very worthy applicants with a lot of experience with transferable skills.

Anybody had any luck with this?

I had an interview a few weeks back and have not heard yes or no. It seems to be taking a while for Siemens to sort things out. I'm sure they are very busy just now as they have a pretty heavy vacancy board.

cheers

Windman - still waiting here

How was the interview and competency tests - is there some small tower climb to gauge your head for heights ?

Hi, no height test for me but then my interview took place at an office not their HQ in Newcastle where I assume they have a mock turbine set up.

Usual kind of engineering tech interview with a competency test aswell. i.e. mechanical, spacial reasoning. I am not that experieinced though so they were maybe more thorough with me. If you have plenty experience I'd imagine a straight interview will be all.

Siemens appear big on company knowledge so learn all about Siemens wind power and a little about the rest of the company. The rest was just give me an example of this, what about working outside, what do you think the challenges of the role will be, can you travel (HUGE on this, you must be willing to travel or forget it).

Ask anything else you want mate, bit of a ramble!! :-)

p.s. if you want to practice competency or see what its about these days go on SHL's website or get a book off amazon.

£6.5k for a 2 week rotation... I doubt that very much... Unless they have contracts where they don't get paid for weather down time etc.
Aye, that's well over double the going rate for siemens level 3 techies. Fair play if true though.
Well I spent several weeks out there with them, I was boroscoping and fitting instro to the gear boxes last summer. May be it was just bravado on their part?

Windman2011 cheers - i was just curious on the type of questioning that is given regarding the skills based questions, how far in depth to electrical and mechanical principles they delve etc.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the site but have been reading through this thread and wanted to ask a question. I am a JIB Approved Electrician with over 11 years commercial and Industrial experience and want to get into the wind industry. I was just wondering if the guys who have been for interviews with Siemens know what the pay on offer is. I assume its lower while your training but can anyone tell me what its likely to be once trained. I assume there is different rates for maintenance and install and also shift allowance to be taken into account. I know this question has been asked before but there was no concrete answer. Any info would be much appreciated.

The adverts I have seen give a range of £25-£27k basic once trained.

Anybody actually managed to secure a job with Siemens yet? I've lost count of the number of wind power vacancies they have just now, must be over 120 at least.

Same as what windman says about the salary for trainee/recently trained - but thats just info gleemed from other all over. I'm still waiting to hear if/when I have an interview myself but there seems to be a few people who have had interviews and still waiting to hear back on that front so I think its safe to assume they are a bit snowed under atm, thats the reasoning im using to justify the wait to myself.

It's not entirely out of the question Ujio, but it will be incredibly difficult. You have to remember you'll be competing against people who equally may not have any turbine experience, but who may have a technical/engineering background with transferable skills. If I were you, I'd look at some kind of vocational course in Mechanical/Electrical engineering and see where it takes you thereafter.
Hello Escargot,
I take it you are a recruiter for the wind industry. Have you got an email address that I could send a CV over to.

Regards

Dan, I've left a message for you today mate. I've got a contact for you to speak to who's been through the Siemens interview process successfully and he's happy to have a chat. Give me a bell when you get a mo. thumbup

Yeah, no news is normally good news as the unlucky ones get weeded out early and the good guys find out last, well here's hoping anyway!

I got a good 3 weeks notice before interview. Found out the head of their wind power training division has left, may well be partly a reason for current delays. Hang on in there, hopefully we'll all be getting recruited shortly!
