Fresh with enthusiasm from the Wind Power Careers fair, I'm looking at a few opportunities. I've got a good idea on salaries for Siemens Travelling Tech and Commissioning, but if I was to go in as a site based offshore tech (starting as trainee), what would the salary be for a level four offshore service tech. So basic plus offshore rate?
I know site based seem to pay less than travel tech, but how much? Do people know what the salary increments are for each level?? I'm just looking to see if a site based job is a good start for me, if I can survive on the wage. I don't really want to take a pay cut from my current salary. I aspire to be a travel tech or in commissioning ideally but this will be a easier start perhaps, and build on the experience to enable me to further myself.
Travel techs and site techs earn the same salary wise, the travel techs just get an overnight rate for being stuck in a hotel so don't be under any impression that it's a better position, also get a hire car which saves you a bit of coin too when on shift. If anything the development is slower though due to moving around sites etc. Commisioning techs earn a good amount more but again not really on base salary, more on overnight offshore allowances/overtime etc at Siemens. All depends wether you want to be home every night or not, travel tech role doesn't suit everyone. I'm site based for that reason. I know site based seem to pay less than travel tech, but how much? Can't give out figures on here, but feel free to pm me if you want a bit more info.
The job is great, however there is massive difference in pay and conditions across the industry depending who you work for.
Hi everyone. My first post so go easy!! I trawled these forums for a long time looking for info when I was applying for a service tech job with seimens/dong or whoever was looking and found a Lot of useful information so wanted to put back in since I'm now starting my training in Newcastle in a couple of weeks 😄
One thing I have to say though there is a lot of conflicting info out there and if you want to know anything the best thing is to talk to someone who is actually doing the job or go to the company's direct rather than 3rd partys and agency's.
I'm actually pretty late coming on to the scene I'm the 5TH person to leave from my previous employer for this job!! They hate windfarms lol.
Anyway any questions about the process il be happy to help I know how slow they are at responding to anything and you can feel a bit lost at times
Cheers 😃

I done the 6 week initial training earlier this year through the Siemens apprenticeship and found it really good so have fun and welcome to the industry! Also hope you like climbing in 6 months I climbed over 14km of ladder! There's a good youtube video 'london array - a day in the life' Http://youtu.be/gYYPYA4VZJE
This has appeared on the Siemens website, apprenticeship for travelling tech.
What does everyone make of this? Since still waiting for their travel tech trawl to open as in the normal job application route or do we reckon they are going down this route as opposed to advertising?

Hi guys, new forum member so please go easy! A little about myself..... I have a level 7 commissioning tech for over 5 yrs working for Siemens and have worked on many projects within the UK and abroad.
You may not know of this but Siemens are currently loosing out on many future contracts to the Likes of Vesta's. So much so they are now making 30 people within Siemens UK redundant 17 of these commissioning, to which I am sadly 1.
To that end I would advise anyone not to concentrate on trying to get a start with Siemens and to look elsewhere. I believe even the likes of 3sun, GWS and Cwind are laying off too so times are hard!
However if anyone knows of anyone taking on feel free to let me know!
Good luck to you all.

Lee, was that you posting aswell on the WTT Facebook thread?
It doesn't look great for the industry at the moment does it but alot of people had predicted a very hard year with major UK construction projects (round 3?) being put back to 2017 and beyond. it's an unfortunate sign of the times, my current company (not anything to do with wind power) shrink and swell depending on contracts etc making permie staff redundant then rehiring the year after.
I still hold out hope that Wind Power is still the way to go for me career wise having left the forces and the wind industry falling flat on its heels recruitment wise for the foreseeable future.

I may of posted something, but think It might of been on the wall of a closed group which mainly consists of Siemens lads.
Yeah times are hard at the moment, but I am fully expecting my phone to explode come March time. So its just a case of keeping calm and looking about until then, while trying to enjoy some downtime. Being ex forces too this is the longest I have ever been at home since I joined up at the tender age of 17!
But wish everybody luck in their pursuit of trying to get a start within the industry. All I can say Is that I have thoroughly enjoyed my 5yrs with Siemens.
For those that are interested E.on are recruiting at the moment , which I believe is nationwide but focusing on the Rampion project off the coast of Brighton. RWE are taking on too for a kent based project. Both are listed on Indeed and totalenergy.

3Sun seem to be screaming ahead in the supply of 3rd Party Techs especially as they (the WTG's) all emerge from their Warranties....
3Sun have also nicked a lot of the stat inspection work that Zurich were doing so they will need a fair few people for that. Cushy number for someone!http://www.offshorewind.biz/2017/01/17/3sun-recrui...

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there has been an increase in opportunities for Competent Rotorblade Technicians which seemingly can attract a larger wage given it's more of a specialist role.
I work for a training company specialising in the wind turbine industry so happy to answer as many questions as I can without promoting the company I work for.
