H&S are cheap for reason.

What they have done above is simply cut the exhaust before it separates at the 2 pipe section before it separates into 4... Arguably this would yield the most power gain lol.... Agree it looks wrong though.

I originally had 4 pipes out the back to see what it sounded like, but I had it cut at the 2 pipe section (made a better than stock y peice) and a v band welded and then a v band was also fitted to the stock exhaust taken off so it was a 15min refit.

A little Later I had tailpipes made that were actually mini silencers with the a similar offset step to the originals as I think this is as important as the quad pipe on an M car.
The mini silencers took the edge off the idle without the need for large silencers to reduce the on throttle noise :-)

Nothing short of silly exotica sounds as good let alone better than the M5 with silencer delete :-)

Why is that then? Not a single bad review from any of us who've visited them with an E60/1

Yes they sound good, they are cheap silencers though, having cut theirs up to repack I know what goes in them and how they sell so cheaply.... They won't last anything like as long as the standard silencers but they will be cheap to replace :-)

And for people who only keep the car for a couple of years thats no issue. Mine have been on 2 years (18 months with me and 7 months under new owner) and theres no issues to report thus far.

Out of interest Andy, is there an exhaust manufacturer you'd recommend? I'm looking at replacing my rear boxes, but don't really want anything as loud as the silencer delete. I was thinking maybe Supersprint or the Evolve switchable option. I'd be interested in your opinion, thanks.

I don't actually, I had an ac schnitzer on my M3 and that was awsome sound and quality but I know not if they do one for an M5 or what effect it has on performance.

What I do is have a local guy (who specialises in 1 off custom exhausts) make me exactly what I want, means I know exactly what goes into the silencer and how restrictive it is... For my 'toy' (noble that needs to pass track day noise tests) the internal perf is titanium with the highest quality waddling carefully packed, it has a hard life as it needed to be both quiet and unrestrictive and yet take huge flames on every gear change ( classic killer for silencers).... We stripped it to inspect after 6000 road and track miles and it was as new inside and it passes even the most stringent track sound regs.... The plus side is I have ab2nd silencer that can be removed for the external wastegates, so if I choose I can have the car completely unsilenced on boost which is significantly noisier than even my M5 with its silencer delete lol

Gaz should have come to my mate who does it properly. As Andy said the V pipe is the way to go.

Still considering coming down to see him, Contigo, although I expect it'll cost more now as he'll have to weld back on the original pipes first - or use an exhaust sleeve or whatever they're called!

Is he still up for it?

Damn, that's some bad luck. How'd he manage that?

If you could let me know when he's back up and running, that'd be marvellous - cheers.

Is there anything out there that sounds better than an Eisenmann?

Mine might be coming up for sale in a few weeks as I've been offered a really good deal on something I've always wanted. Will be viewing said car on Friday and will make the decision then.

Pics please of the underside! I cannot wait to see how they have lobbed them off biggrin
Can't get under it, but this is the back. I was torn, but now I'm hacked off with it and want the original pipes back on. I think I'm just gonna take it back to the place that lopped them off, ask them to weld the original bits back on, and then do what they should have done in the first place and just cut out the silencers.

oh jesus, that looks absolutely ridiculous.

i cant believe im back here but i am now tempted AGAIN by what would be my 3rd V10 S85. would be an E61 this time round. currently got a E53 4.8is, very capable 4x4. was looking at E61 pricing just recently and i was surprised to see that they had settled (and dropped) quite a bit.

anyway, going from 20mpg (which is what im getting at present) to say 18 which is what ive got with my M5 & M6 previously isnt that much of an issue, the problem is with these is general running costs. brutal.

Missed this before, but age is less important than mileage. I accept that they may be good enough for some and sound good, but they are NOT even half the quality of the original silencers and to me that was an issue.
