I just bought a CSL, over 60k miles and arranged a drive-line BMW warranty with excess and euro breakdown for a not a bank busting sum for 12 months, can review after that. Figured I'd protect myself from any very serious bills that could come along, especially as I don't know the car very well. Any thoughts on whether this was a sensible move warranty wise appreciated (still have time to cancel !).
Previous car (still have it, but will go on PH shortly) is a normal M3 with every toy, had no warranty on and would not have got value for money if I did. Not much went wrong as was fairly cheap to fix the bits that did fail. But I knew the car very well and had it from 32k miles. These factors don't apply to the new one, so bitten the bullet.
Oh, and the car is a blast, different beast entirely and more than I imagined, a fuller write up to come after I have driven it a bit more but so far so good. Just need to learn to drive it !

His car was far from being a toilet and before he spazzed the engine while changing the headgasket, was available to buy for £10k. He has now bought a CSL, btw and is part of your playgroup. Ask him to show you some videos from inside the "toilet" E36... The CSL is a stunning car, but it is for people on a different budget and is definitely not the best bang for buck car... So many things I can reply to......but I won't bother. OP can buy what he wants. Question was "what is the best M car for trAckday use, driving to and from" and the answer is CSL. Mine is 88k miles, never in 65 trackdays has it ever not gotten home under its own steam from a trackday. No need for suspensions changes, no need for stripping it out, no need for a/m seats, no need for any engine mods......just a set of APs up front and off you go. It's really quite simple.

As good a car as the CSL is, extensive track work and high miles equals big ££££

I did check some CSL... I am sorry but i forgot to mention that I am not in UK and I dont know why here in central europe the CSL are going for at least 45k Euros, which is equivalent to 36k of the queens money... and dont think I am not looking at the right place... I want to get one in Germany which should be the country with the largest amount of cars on offer. Correct me if I am wrong...

Buy a E36 M3 track it, improve it, track it, improve it. Mine owes me about £3k, which includes the purchase price, a new clutch and updating the rubber bits and a few other things. Stock brakes and suspension are fine for a while. if you have the budget to go every weekend, then you might want a cage, new dampers and other tick bits. but even on stock shocks, pads, discs, road tyres mine was one of the faster things at castle combe a few weekends ago, even the Atom wasnt getting away that quickly Custard fast forward the first 2min, more interesting from 5:40 onwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceI__tcpT_s&fea...build: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Also remembered we were supposed to meet up. Sorry we havent done, i had a nightmare with jobs last time we spoke and have ended up working up in cheltenham. Track use is forbidden under the contract terms of the BMW/Mondial extended warranty. They will cancel/invalidate cover if they have proof of track use & they DO check youtube footage & forum pics for cars & plates.
