Human; in a word, epic!! The trouble is, the noise is addictive and you end up constantly revving hard for the sake of it! Let us know your thoughts when you first redline it!

Barton; interesting. I do love the 997 but this car has all (and more) the performance I think I'll ever need unless I consider suicide an option.

Vlad - over a favourite stretch of B road the BM is quicker than the 997.... almost hurts me to type that ! Up to 10mph faster at some points. Is it more fun or more of an event? No, course not, but then it cost me a third of what the 997 would have cost new and its practical, warrantied (so is the 997!) and has free servicing for 5 years.

It is, however, the first car I have told my wife to be careful with and we have had some quick stuff, M5 and VXR8 included.

I did start a list prior to our leased cars being delivered for a possible meet. I'd be interested in finishing it just to see how many there are on here!

My m135 replaced a vxr8 Bathurst. Things are a lot easier as an everyday car but a lot less entertaining. Nobody notices the 1series buzzing around hehe

Cheers; a lot of trial and error and too many wasted products!
I use Dodo Supernatural hybrid on the paint; fairly cheap but very good. I never go top end, but you can do very well getting slightly specialist stuff. Big name products (AG, Megs, Simoniz, etc) are often disappointing IMO.

Nice one, I'm just like you on the cleaning front. I like the car to be protected first and foremost, then the level of shiny comes into play.

Agree with the expensive products. My dad called me the other day telling me about these great expensive products he's bought when he knows full well I'm into 'Detailing' and could give him great recommendations whilst saving him loads of cash.

FFS call me before buying all this stuff!

My aim is not to have the shiniest car I won't use but to protect it and make it easier to clean. Especially vital when you live 200 yards from the Atlantic Ocean!

Mine is approximately 100 miles short of the 1,200 'running in' period. Looking forward to giving it the beans soon. It's absolutely rapid even when keeping the revs below 4,500 so goodness knows what 7,000 will be like!
Just warm up then give it the beans and stop worrying.

It's not as though something magical happens at 1,200.01 miles.

Any of you had rear smoked tail lights fitted to your cars? If so how much did you pay for them?

I've been quoted around 240 + VAT. Unsure whether that's for a pair of rear lights or just one.

It's not a pair of anything, just a single transaction wasting you a good amount of money and giving you the same lights but in a slightly darker shade wink

hehe

But it looks like they cause you to lose all spacial awareness when parking, going by that picture.

I'm doing the same as you eyeing up the M-Performance exhaust. £800 for more noise and nothing else tongue out

I've also said the same to my missus!

Meh. I wasn't worrying, just looking after it as I wish (following the manufacturer's manual). And I was musing with excitement at how quick it'll be when I redline it! smile

It's an interesting dilemma - me, I bought it because it's a great piece of engineering, and so abusing it initially just feels wrong. Mind you, in less than a week we're at 800 miles, and so the 1200 will appear quite soon. Have driven one harder than 'my' one, and am looking forward to it. In fact, have just sorted a round trip weekend to Scotland with the wife and no kids, so that'll be fun.....

700 miles in and I'm loving the car.
I thought in Comfort mode there was a misfire, but that was the auto box shuffling up through the gears. smile
As someone said earlier, there's plenty of performance even below 4,500 revs. Although on the A52 the other night I was in Sport and went to overtake. Put my foot down and it dropped a couple of gears, the revs rocketed up. I eased off quickly, but the noise and the acceleration will be addictive I know.

I figured out cruise control on the motorway - it's spent a lot of time in Eco mode with cruise on the last few days which is pleasant enough. Although when a gap opens up and you have to accelerate it's like a one point nothing rental car for acceleration.

Only fly in the ointment is I keep getting a warning light usually just after pulling off. It happened twice on day 3 of ownership and probably another 5 times since. (I've had it a week today). Dropped it off at BMW this morning for a check. Hopefully it's just the sensor that needs adjusting or something and I can get it back today. I'd be annoyed if parts are needed from germany (I've heard this can be the case). The warning doesn't seem to affect the car's performance in any way which makes me think it's the sensor at fault. Fingers crossed.

That could be the speed warning you can set (its on yeelow ! on the right of the cluster), took delivery of my M235i on Sat and the speed warning was set to 4mph.

Woundered what the hell was going on till I worked it out, and turned it off.

It's not the speed warning. It was a "Driving Stabilisation Failure".
Slightly annoyed that I dropped the car off with the dealer at 7:30am this morning and got a call at 12:50 to say tell me what they were going to look at.
Not that they'd done it, but that they were going to do it. Almost five and a half hours later.

I sometimes do this when board on launches. Keeps me amused to think of the next journo wondering why the car is bonging when coming out of the pits.

To be fair, everything else about the service was excellent. Met at the door, shown to a seat and offered coffee (which was like dishwater) while I waited.
Then when I went to collect the car got the same treatment. Including a bottle of water to take with me "as a souvenir".

I wonder if this is what all BMW dealers are like, or just Park Lane?

And the warning light issue? It was becuase they hadn't switched off transport mode for the steering during the pre-delivery check (at a different dealer)
