I've asked the 'genius' at my local dealer if the car can be defaulted to sport, he didn't know and hasn't got back to me yet so I guess it can't.

The car feels broken in eco-pro mode, I keep thinking it's gone in to limp mode hehe.

I do tend to switch between modes on a journey probably because I can.
I do this as well.

I find eco pro is a bit worrying when pulling out of junctions..

I seem to just stick to comfort most of the time.

I've configured my sport mode so that it only does the chassis and not drivetrain. I prefer the comfort gearbox / throttle mapping but like the sport on the adaptive suspension to improve the body control.

I can always knock the box across to S if I want keener gearshifts but in reality there is so much midrange there is rarely the need.

It even says for example 'Sport' in the manual but it won't do it for me, that's why I went in and asked.

I think the throttle response in sport is way better than the other settings. I feel in comfort you have to floor the throttle to get it to do anything, it's not linear. Maybe coming from an N/A 3.0 that is my expectation.
The response should be more linear in comfort, as 0-100% of the throttle movement will related to the throttle bodies. IIRC in "sport mode" you only get the first 60% of movement, from 0-100% of the TB.

You're just used to NA. I love NA. Get used to working a turbo and you can predict them well smile

Sorry not got HK, but the standard speakers are bit meh
Adaptive gives a great ride, but I didn't compare it to standard before I bought.
Pronav gives you a bigger screen, enhanced bluetooth and the (black?) sat nav display in between speedo and rev counter. Well worth the money IMHO
IFAIK enhanced blue tooth gives music streaming. It's OK, but there are plenty of alternative ways of playing music
The standard speakers are by no means great but are better than I expected. They sound fine for normal listening... The sound isn't too thin...

I'll +1 this. Pleasantly surprised, and I'm usually really anal about hifi. Not great, but ok for a bit of background noise.

I ticked over 1000 miles in the courtesy 320d that BMW provided whilst I'm waiting for my 1 series this morning. I had an email a couple of weeks ago to say delivery had been pushed back again to sometime next week, so I was surprised to receive another email today asking if I could collect it tomorrow!

woohoo

Had a bit of a faff with insurance, my existing insurer wanted an additional £583 to switch from a MINI Cooper to the M135i for the remainder of the policy. Ended up cancelling, receiving a £170 refund and taking out a new policy with Elephant for £312, with the parking sensors declared as 'modifications'.

Roll on tomorrow afternoon, considering I was planning to collect at the start of March this day has been a long time coming.

Yep, I think we've all been there. It will theoretically prevent damage so should bring premiums down, but as it's classed as a "modification" my inner cynic says it'll put the price up.

And when I told them about adaptive suspension, I was asked "how much has it been lowered by"...grrrr

I'm wondering if the ECO-mode does anything to improve fuel consumption. Anybody done any real tests to compare? I sense that all it does is kill the AC for a bit and cut power when you accelerate, but on an MWAY cruise at say 70mph you'd get the consumption in ECO as you would in Comfort with the AC off.
That depends whether ECO mode just longs out the throttle map, or actually reduces boost, any one know for sure?

I've been starting to think my active sound engine note is broken, but I noticed on the way home it only turns on in sport. That's a bit troll, as I actually like the sound!

Hi very close to ordering one of these -manual, still wondering about colours and options in particular

-HK speakers vs BMW advanced speakers
- what is so good about adaptive suspension?
- business vs pro satnav
- enhanced bluetooth

any opinion/experience on these would be appreciated
my thoughts:
  • standard speakers are fine. Not hi-fi, not stunning, but perfectly good for voice and music
  • not tried adaptive suspension but the standard car has the different modes (comfort, sport, sport + (which is really sport -, since it turns off the traction control)) and apparently adaptive suspension tends to kill tyres so says our (slightly knowledge-dodgy) bmw dealer
  • having some satnav is nice - the large display is a bit odd without it on - pro gives to access to concierge-style services I think but I didn't need or want that - may also have some other functions like better displays for mpg etc - nice but not vital. It may well have better bluetooth connectivity tho
  • enhanced bluetooth probably gives you audio streaming - but iPhone 4 and lower connect via apple+aux lead, or you can put mp3's on a usb stick. Standard gives you automatic pairing for calls and upload of contacts.
Other points: full black panel display looks much nicer imho and only costs about £100, and also gives you satnav in the instrument cluster. If I'd known it was not the default, I would have ordered that. I have the comfort pack (I think that's it's name, from memory) which gives rear parking sensors and cruise control, both of which are worth it. I can manage fine without front sensors, and without the sun protection pack. Limit is a good standing for cruise control, if you mostly use it for roadworks with average speed cameras....

hth.

I agree - that and momentary turbo lag and so on are not the greatest combination.

I change modes when driving around too. Prefer responsiveness of sport mode for throttle, eco pro used in heavy traffic, but mostly comfort for ok responses. Only just past the running period, and liking being back in a turbo car with new characteristics to learn. Foot hard down to overtake and you wonder whether anything will.......ooooohhhh I see..... :-)

This would seem to be an obvious answer, except it went from red to white to red again on the way home last night.
When the lights are on it seems to be mostly red (ie same as the dials) but occassionally white.

Not in Eco mode either - last night I was in sport.
Did a very quick test on mine last night. With lights manually turned off - white display; with lights manually on - instantly switched to red display. Guess there could be some variation introduced by the auto lights or driving mode though?

I can play spotify tunes on my iphone 4 through the y cable and it shows the track info on the display.

This is with the standard stereo...

I can play them, but I can't change the track, load a playlist, search by artist, which to me is no better than using a 3.5mm jack?

Many thanks for the advice guys

defo adaptive suspension, black panel display, rear sensors then
not much in pro and business satnav, not sure if its worth £1000 extra
enhanced bluetooth isn't that good

Has anybody got BMW advanced speakers, I do like my sound, I know people are saying standard is good but I've not heard anyone comment on BMW advanced

I seem to be able to advance to the next track on a playlist using the scroll well but the display doesn't actually show me the correct track title.

Agreed it's not ideal but slightly better than just running from the headphone jack as I can set a playlist going on random and then keep skipping tracks if I want to.

it's not ideal, but works just about well enough...

Agreed on the black panel, I don't have it and the cluster looks much neater with the black panel even if you don't have nav.

Don't forget the comfort pack if you want cruise and rear park sensors.

Get the advanced, H&K is not worth the extra outlay and BMW have just reduced it to 360W from 600W.

The standard speakers are your typical run of the mill quality you expect in a focus.
The £300 for the advanced is money well spent.

My minimum spec (& what i went for) was:

Comfort pack - essential for cruise control, rear parking sensors are useful
Black panel - makes the dash look a little nicer, mpg "swinger" display is nice, like my old 330i
Additional storage - useful boot net, little glovebox by the drivers knee
Heated seats - just hate not having them

I dont think you need anything else really.
