Try and separate the discount from the finance deal - use Coast to Coast as a good negociating point or even target. 20% is easily achievable.

And only then talk finance, once you're sorted the discount. The same discount is available at BMW dealers irrespective of method of finance. You may however need to borrow £5k or so from BMW FS to trigger the additional £500 discount. There won't be any penalties for that if you repay early.

Consider the historical depreciation on those cars before jumping into PCP or lease.

Out of curiosity, are there a lot of m135i coming to end of leases soon? Wondering what might happen to residuals here.

I recall you could buy a bog spec manual for c £25k brand new in 2012/13 (i.e. Incl discount), and 2-3yrs on even the cheapest second hand ones are £20k. If you'd bought one for for £25k it's probably worked out v cheap motoring all things considered
that's why I decided to lease rather than buy one, looked at the trade values few weeks ago 20-22 for cheap ones but still quite low mileage, next year they will be loads for sale as leases end and take few months to get in the nextwork
Very tricky decision but at least you've locked the depreciation.

Several factors :
- we don't know how much of a proportion of M135is were sold on the cheap 24 month lease deals 2 years ago. 1%, 10%, 50% ?
- we don't know what the yield management strategy will be when those come back on the market. I can't see them flooding their own market.
- we know those deals weren't open ended - in other words they only lasted 4/5 months - once the glut of cars has been introduced to the second hand market, the source will dry out and supply may return to "normal".
- LCI effect ?

Personally, I found it difficult to spend £8,500 for 24 months / 16k miles when actual depreciation still hovers at around £5k / £6k over 3 years / 25k-30k miles but my crystal ball might be broken !

Looking for some advice, I'm close to pulling the trigger on one of these but I've never bought a new car before so unsure of what is a good deal and how the website brokers compare to the main dealers.

I've been quoted roughly 300 a month at 10k miles over 48 months, with 15% down from a main dealer with a couple of options.

How competitive is this and where is good to look for the cheaper deals? I'd rather not lease as I'd like the option to buy and not sure about my mileage at the moment. I've had a look through the thread's more recent pages at some of the sites etc. but looking for some more general advice really.

Cheers
Agree with Nicks comments above. Negotiate the OTR price with the options you desire, and then work on the PCP aspects and monthly payments. I managed over 20% off the OTR price (inc. 5y service pack) when I ordered mine 3 weeks ago, and looking at other threads on BabyBMW, that level of discount is typical if you push the dealers.

Coast2Coast price is always a good option to fall back on, but I managed to get my local dealer to improve on that.

I loaded my car up and my cost is 11k over 2 years. The car was 37k at list.

Yep. Gadgets depreciate heavily and quite quickly.

Going to test drive an M135i in a couple of days. First time buying a BMW, what are the dealers like to deal with and for part-ex? Looking at swapping my 2014 GT86 for one.

There is no uniformity within the network, they're all franchised indies or part of a group. Some good some bad. Make sure you speak to several. GT86 should sell easily privately if you want to save about £1,000 compared to trade.

My G2L lease ends in Jan '16. Love the car so want to keep it for another year but the extension quote is ridiculous. Up from the current £342pcm to £488pcm! Looks like there'll be another 2yo M135i hitting the market in Q1 '16...

Oh balls. I was hoping to do the same too and extend the lease for another year (my deal ends in March).

Am keeping my ear to the ground on any new deals on other metal as I'll need to get something sorted by the end of the year if it'll take 3 months to arrive...

About £60ish higher than your original monthly cost (if you factor in the deposit)? I guess a 3y/o car will take a bigger depreciation hit.

It works out at about £76pcm more than the original cost which surprises me given that I would have thought that the depreciation curve flattens slightly in Yr 3, compared to Yr 1 & 2. I guess they may be factoring in soft residuals due to the number of lease returns that will be on the market in 2016.

After reading your post I asked for quotes to extend mine from the end of Jan. I was shocked.

For a 12 month extension the cost would increase at a similar level - from £337 to £477. To buy it outright - £24,100! eek

I'm considering giving it back early to avoid the 2 year service cost and potential new tyres by year end, and look for another deal.

I bought a new one in May 2015, 5dr, 8 speed, nav, adaptive dampers, heated seats etc. List was £36k. Got 15% discount and then just took PCP on a 335d touring very cheap for the car. Better than the lease deals. The dealer gave me £22k for the M135i. Now that was for it with 6k miles on it and 12 month old. Cost me circa £500 a month. I seen it on at £27k with another dealer. No doubt I lost a good bit and the car was great I just needed more space. GFV on the 335d at 2 years old is £23k. Thats with M Sport plus pack, reversing camera, heated seats and some other bits. We know its not £23k for a 2013 335d with 20k miles on it. I shall see what happens at change time.

Mines just gone back. Look out for a Mineral Grey automatic with red leather at BCA soon!

The fact it hadn't had its first service yet seemed to perplex them, as does the lack of a physical service book altogether.

I'm hoping by the time mine is due to go back (april) the underwriter will have worked out BCA isn't the smartest option, and will be offering more reasonable lease extensions.

I am not overly hopeful.

Yup, they asked me about that as well! I took pictures of all the iDrive service info before i gave it back, then emailed it to them to proof it didnt need a service. Seems that quite a few of them have gone back early, perhaps proving that they're a little "jack of all trades, master of none"?

My commute has changed significantly so it didn't make financial sense to keep it until the end of the lease. I agree with you though, competent and very fast car but I was pretty nonplussed when it went.

Mine is now on 16000 miles and due to go back in March. Last week I had it serviced for £170 as I figured I would have to do its eventually, and it had a rattle.

The last week or so I seem to have started bonding with it again. I think with the crap weather the heated leather, auto, HK and nav are what make it a nice experience. To be fair a 320d would accomplish that too. It is fun booting it in this weather though on almost worn MPSS.
