Hi guys, anyone familiar with car:

Is it a bit overpriced?
Its a catch 22 with that one. Personally, i would have expected a more informative advert.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

If you keep the miles low on it, it may hold its value, but that defeats the object of buying it.
Hexagon commands, and gets strong money for minters, but they have warranty. My previous pre FL one had 14k worth of warranty work on it (Never had i been so happy to pay the £1850 warranty renewal)
If the one advertised for 16k had a gold plated BMW warranty with it, and 100% spot on service history, i'd bid 14 on it.

The red triangles on the dash suggest it either has low washer fluid, needs the oil level checked, or something else - now it might be trivial but that sort of thing suggests it's perhaps not being cared for as it should be, and at that price you'd want it to have been pampered.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

Thanks for pointing that out.Fantastic car so far!
I have had S54, S50, S65 and S14's but have never tried the 5L V8.
Blown away with the lazy V8 and is almost a cross between my C63 and my old S54.
Few things to address:
- Notchy gear change
- Going to reconolise the leather
- New mats
- New stereo
- Fix pixels
- New Tyres - not a fan of the conti's!
- It had a recent service at BMW but want to have a good visual check of the diff, engine, all pipes and the bushes.
- Might even give it an undersealing if I can get under it this summer.

The gear change can be notchy, especially when cold, but improves a lot when warm. Mine's like this (many others out there will be the same) and I had the entire change mechanism outside of gearbox replaced, after which the change improved a little. Also changed the gearbox oil for some Fuchs stuff to little effect so drained it and put in the (seriously expensive!) BMW gearbox oil, now better but only slightly. It seems it's one of those 'they all do that, sir' characteristics. (Some report improvements after switching to Royal Purple gear oil - there's a long thread on M5board that raged for weeks on this. Some say the Royal oil stuffs the gearbox long term).
[I'd have the suspension and steering looked over by an indie garage and spend money there before launching into ICE and cosmetic upgrades, but each to their own.]
Enjoy the drive. They are fabulous cars!

Very good car, FBMSH, owner worked at BMW, car enthusiast.
You had a grey one didn't you - I remember from the old days with the bmwcarforum.
Rags you got a E39 M5 ???? Is there a M car u haven't owned :-) ?You had a grey one didn't you - I remember from the old days with the bmwcarforum.
I love the E39 M5 especially in facelift LE Mans Blue
I see you got a very late M5. I think 03 and 53 are last ones.
Oxford Green is cool, rare and understated.
What did the previous owner work as for BMW ? Technician ?
Congratulations :-)

Not many
This is one of the best if not the best and for that you have to pay if you want the best
The E39 M5 according to Evo magazine 2007 is in the top 5 BMW M vehicles of all time!!!!

Well if we're playing the low mileage game here's one that IMO probably trumps the other - I'm sure the connoisseurs will comment on the pretty lacking advert information beyond the obvious of wood trim and no nav but less than 37k facelift for 15k http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...Not many

There are hardly any E39 M5s with sub 40k mileage ATM
Surely can't be as nice as Hexagon's but the £15k is a bargain for the mileage.

So after seeing a 48,000 mile car become sold advertised on here at £19,995 a few weeks ago, and now these two, I think it is safe to say yes!!

It's always nice when you know you have an appreciating asset in the garage! I think there will always be a market for this car, such an icon amongst M cars I think.

This post has been very informative, especially about the rear view mirrors and the chassis numbers. I viewed a 2001 M5 recently with a rectangular rearview mirror and a 1999 model I viewed also had a rectangular one...
This is the 2001 example:
