That first one needs big end bearings. They told me 12 maths ago they would fix it if I bought it, but not before... lol
If anyone can confirm if it's this one that needs the bearings i'd love to here as i've put a deposit on it.
I can't here any unwelcome noises though to be quite honest.
The only real issue i have is not being able to find it on the DVLA database as it's just come off a cherished plate,so can't get insurance for it yet.
Mind you maybe the delay has been a blessing.........................Anybody frown

If the bearings have gone you will hear a pretty unmistakable knocking noise, not necessarily at idle but when you dial in a few revs. It's not the kind of thing you wouldn't notice if you've been and started it up/driven it.

If you've got half a brain, you'll soon realise if there's a problem during a decent test drive.

Yes i know, but when i saw a comment saying it needs big end bearings i started to doubt my sanity and thought maybe EddieFelson knew something i didn't.

I'm thinking preventative maintenance is a good idea anyway. It's not mega expensive to have the bearings changed.

Low, firstly ask the question. If you don't ask they don't have to disclose but if you do ask and they don't disclose that's different. So ask the question, get it written down. You are going to be protected anyway.

Secondly I'm up in the Mossley area regularly when visiting family, happy to meet up even if it does sound like a strange dogging request

Cheers Hair,Well i'm hopefully picking it up next Saturday 6th April as long as it's registered on the correct plate so............if you're around.

Feeling very guilty that i seem to have hijacked this thread so to get it back on line......I think that e39 M5 prices have pretty much bottomed out and as already said the good ones will start to creep up in price as time goes by.Mind you a couple of the well known specialists already sell them for a lot of money as anyone, like myself who has been obsessivley trying to track a decent one down will have seen.......so i'm just referring to the ones in general circulation. That's my twopenneth worth anyway. smokin

Sold my mint Le Mans Blue facelift with 96k miles, car was immaculate (KDS detail, Lepsons re-furb original shadow chrome) it was the best all-rounder and best value car I've owned, did 20k miles and sold it for more than I paid for it.

Might well be up, if I am I can drop you off there if you like!

One thing to check, if you didn't on the drive. Get to about 30mph in 2nd gear and press the sport button. You should feel a noticeable kick

I saw the adverts when you were selling - it was exactly what I am after, I just wasn't in a position to buy at the time. Shame because I think I really missed out on a good example, very little advertised since has come close without inflated asking prices.

It was in mint condition mechanically and cosmetically when I sold it, was seriously tempted to put it in storage for when I get back. Still plenty more cars on the bucket list to try, fancy a 1M as a daily, they look like a right hoot.

Only the nice M5's with good history, good spec seem to be fetching good money.
I looked at and drove 5 or 6 M5's before buying mine 4yrs ago, the problem is their are so many crap examples out there and everyones perception of a nice condition M5 is different. I will be changing to the E60 M5 in the next year or so and i wouldn't buy from a trader, i much prefer to buy from a private owner who has owned the vehicle for a few years, things like budget tyres just put me off straight away.
I think if you buy an E39 M5 that has been looked after properly and is factory looking you won't loose too much money, also helps if its facelift has sat nav & no nasty wood.

That is my perfect chariot sitting right there, but I am desperately trying to hold off until after I have paid for my wedding in August to buy one.

Well if I end up with it, you'll be welcome to it... next year tongue out

I did think about not posting it, but then if someone here buys it I can at least relentlessly harass them until they agree to sell it to me.

Sounds like a fair arrangement.

I think I'll be having a talk with the war department tonight.
