Well that phatlad or whatever he's called, the one that aspired to an RS but had to get an E92 wheezewaggon started it!
You mean a 354bhp RS4? If god wanted us to understeer he'd have given us all one of those horrors.

A-ha! A local! I'll keep my eyes skinned for a leaky wobbler making his way to Didcot biggrin
Swindonian here! And as for understeer, god gave E39 drivers the sport button with servotronic powersteering!

could well do that - not driven an E92 yet, so might be interesting.

However, if i'm just being groomed for some kind of ambush from a load of old spunkers i'd like to point out i'll shortly have a very fast car, and won't be afraid to use it!

I've had a few individual drives in a couple of hig-revving NAs (VTECs in this case) - and I loved them. but i think that's the point - they were somebody else's car!

Great to be a passenger in, great to try for yourself once or twice, maybe great if you have the luxury of a toy car for the occasional Sunday (although if you do: go racing!), but to live with the the thing? Would have done my head in. Even before you talk about filling up every other day.

I have the utmost respect for those in an E92 who do get the "thrill of motoring" every day by taking it to the red line on the way to Tescos, but I just think for me in every day situations i'd end up feeling non-plussed 80% of the time, and only properly engaged at the occasional track day or rare blast up the b4944 from Newbury to Wantage on a sunday morning. all i've read about my 1M says i'll get more out of it more of the time.

I'm exited, by the way.
Great stuff that's the spirit. Enjoy picking it up tomorrow. Just be careful getting carried away in mdm mode - the car will still spin around if provoked too much. A nice set of eibach springs and a remap will see you well.

Let us know how you get on..

Best go - my meals on wheels breakfast has arrived.. Angus will be along to keep you entertained with his macho bike stories next biggrin

Lets do it, be interesting to see the two side by side!
Haha! Admission time. My car was the one used by Evo mag when the 1M was launched as an alternative (second hand M3 or new 1M). I was impressed by the 1M as it handles so nicely and has a very lithe chassis. But the engine was nothing compared to the M3. And the M3 is much more handsome.

I don't remember being bowled over by the torque in the 1er or missing any in the E92... But then again my prostate is in order biggrin

I think the 1M is a good car, BTW. smile
It's a good car, but it's still a £45k 1 Series. Yes, it was developed by the Motorsport division, but the bottom line is that its engine is still far closer to the cooking variants than anything to wear the proper 'M' moniker.

If it was £10k cheaper I'd have had one in a second. I remember telling this to the salesman at the time, who looked at me like I'd pissed on his kids at Christmas.

And I agree; all this talk of the S65 'lacking torque' is hilarious. Christ, it just shows how fickle the modern punter is. Five years ago, the mere thought of a turbo'd //M car (2002 notwithstanding) would have people reaching for the pitch-fork. Now, the finest N/A V8 ever made is being condemned for not possessing the same power curve as your average diesel rolleyes

I think the problem here, is that the 1M flatters its driver like a willing prostitute. Whereas cars like the M3 require far more commitment. Case in point: the comment above where it was suggested that the 911 felt "slow and cumbersome". Right, OK, let's ignore the fact that the 911 (even in 4S flavor) is 100kg lighter, is shorter geared and possesses 25bhp more (assuming 997.2)...

You're all mad!

Mate there is a gaggle of us 1M owners and a couple of E9* M3's who get together and give our M's a good seeing to as intended, actually we are heading up to the Peak District today for a weekend blast, and a 10 day Euro drive finishing up at the ring later in summer. You are always happy to join us, can be usually found at most Sunday Services.

Enjoy your 1M

I had the same problem, amigo. I rectified this when I bought a GT3. It is all things to all men.

Of course I then needed a cheap daily...

You look like you know which way is up smile Imagine this torque-ing balls lot trying to get 8,000 revs from your GT3. They'd soil themselves!
