Can't wait to get mine out from under the cover next week
I'm sure you will be looking forward to it. Brilliant cars. Engine is second to none.

Scrap yard? Really Neil? Great pics cars look really well. Strange that the four door appears to be a smaller car! Very cool. Keep the tread going. Your car has improved so much from the day you bought it and the service made a big difference to that engine. Be up to spec in no time.

Your still playing catch up tho!
Haha thought that would make you post. It does seem to be quite small indeed.

A day out would make for a nice retro coast road run!

Great pics. Is the silver example one that was recently for sale on eBay ? seem to remember an E36 M3 for sale on there not long ago with Ox-Blood Leather Vadars which look stunning.

It wasn't, I believe the owner has had this for 3 ish years?

I'll let him give you the run down.

The dealer themselves. Head over to your local dealership, with the last seven digits of your cars VIN. They will be able to find the suitable part. Note the coupe and saloon has a different seal.

I believe my saloon's part number is 51311977277 (courtesy of http://www.realoem.com)

I've had this for 4 years. Got it from Munich legends. Only 30k miles on it. Bit if a garage queen I have to say but I am definately wanting to get it back on the road. The silver with red is very special do love it!

It's been a busy week...

I had the Differential Input and Gearbox Output seals replaced. The diff was starting to drip a little too much for my liking.

I've also replaced one of the arch liners, it had cracked around one of the mounting bolts. While I was at it, I replaced the support bracket for the arch liner which mounts to the bottom of the front bumper, it's in place so far. However I need to replace the rusted "longer" bolts, these have been ordered so as soon as they arrive they will be fitted.

Also a photo of the legendary Fuch's oil, that people rave about for the E36. The oil was changed a few weeks ago.

I've also started to detail the car. The essential snow foam photos are below.

Next stage is to machine polish the car, cleanse the paint, seal it and wax it. I'll be spending most of next week doing this...

There was a fly on the front number plate so the car needed a full detail wink.

Haha, I'm super anal about cars, so this needs to be top titty.

I do have to say in fairness to the previous owner, it was very well looked after. Minimal marks on the paint. Even the clay bar did not pick up a great deal of contamination.

I've been cracking on with the detailing....

The reflections are now even sharper and the finish should now be fairly bombproof!

I have to say Estoril Blue is an interesting colour. Very metallicy (if that's a word) almost pearlescent in its finish as it changes its shade under light.

I'll get the detailing hopefully finished off tomorrow.

Then get the bumper support fixed in place. The parts arrived today.

Very true and its no bad thing. I guess most people would see it as an old shiny BM with an M3 badge. Well when its not running, the engine noise is epic!

What products and pads are you using on the polishing machine? I assume the BMW paint is quite hard?

Exactly right - & mine doesn't have the badges either! Means you only get attention from those who know what they're looking at wink .

I did actually find it quite hard. It's up there with Audi's frown.

However due to the E36s having laquer peel issues and not having full knowledge of the paint yet, I felt it best to play safe and just use a finishing polish to remove the swirls and milder scrapes and scores.

That means I can still re-visit the paint if I wish to improve it a little more.

Ultimately at the moment it looks great, with great depth, shine and protection.

I used 3M Ultrafina and their matching pad. I highly rate it.

Nice idea on the debadge, why not put a 316i badge on there for a giggle?

Yep, I prefer it that way: externally, there's just the M badge on the wheels, & the sill trims, which you only see when you open the door. The car was ordered debadged, it was a company car so maybe he didn't want the troops to realise how much he'd spent laugh - the Germans used to be quite keen on the stealth look. I've wondered about a "316i" or similar, but that seems a step too far.
