Thanks for that. Have you got all 4 out of interest?
Yep, attached is what my dealer sent me last year - top two are 18" and bottom two are 17" but all fit the M135i:

Cheers WA. Glad I know the range and didn't miss out on any that I really like.

First run on them today- 12 degrees and very wet. A bit like driving on ice! Is that to be expected? Traction control was working flat out. Spun like mad when I pressed Sport button which was amusing.

Well, first off, I always understood that any new tyres need a bedding-in period, and secondly winter tyres work best below 7 degrees centigrade and are not, in my experience, as good in very wet conditions.

Dealer Quoted £1540 for some 17" wheels and Tyres. Closer to 2K for the 18" ones I believe.

Have decided to get prices on just tyres and have them put on the standard wheels. (it does help that we have our own in house tyre shop...)

The prices I was quoted in December last year for a full set of alloys/tyres were (from top left to bottom right):

18" Style 385 - £1,797
17" Style 381 - £1,797
17" Style 380 - £1,463

Hey Jonathan, fancy seeing you on here! biggrin
Nice choice of car. My Estoril Blue one arrives in a few weeks time.

I've already ordered and received my first "mod", a set of wheels so that I can put the winter tyres I've also received onto the boring OEM wheels.
Thing is, these 18" wheels cost £499. For the set of four!
And the 225/40 18 winter tyres, cost £380, again for four.

So the combined cost is £879 and I end up with much nicer looking summer wheels IMO.
Makes the prices above look fairly insane, particularly as none of the OEM wheels look good, again IMO.

I've got these, but in matt gunmetal. http://www.bmautosport.co.uk/showroom/product_info...

Not a million miles from the TSW Nurburgrings I've got on Stealthzilla.

This year is the first time I've gone for winter tyres, is it as simple as ordering the wheels and tyres as above or are there a load of measurements/ adjustments I'll need to make?

Taiwan in the same factory as some far more expensive branded wheels, e.g. http://www.breytonwheels.co.uk/wheels.php

Some of those Breyton ones are really nice, but seriously expensive.

As for ordering aftermarket ones, I'd definitely speak to a specialist. I bought them from Projex as I was also ordering some extra wheels for the wife's 500 Abarth and my mum's IS200. They know BM Autosport and matched their price.

I'd be wary about buying wheels off some random eBay supplier unless I'd already spoken to someone who confirmed that those exact wheels fit my exact model.

I have just had a set of these fitted to the original wheels http://www.pirelli.com/tire/us/en/car/sheet/winter...

So far I'm quite impressed, traction is pretty good (although it's not that cold yet) and the steering doesn't feel vague.

The ride is worse though as they are run-flats. Bit of an own goal there perhaps.

Hello, hello. Excellent choice. I am much enjoying mine.

What tyres did you get for £380 for 4?

Hi all, I'm looking in to buying winter wheels also but the dealer wheels are too expensive at £1700.

I was looking at these bad boys with these Nokian tyres; http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/alloy-wheels/wolfra...

They look not bad and the tyres get good reviews.

The site reckons they'll fit no problem, too smile

Hey Jonathan, sorry only just seen this. Nanking V2S I think. Not really fussed as long as they get traction. Put Nexens on the wife's Abarth 500 and they transformed its cold weather performance.

I just put these on today. They are BMW MV1 wheels (staggered OEM ones, fake ones don't fit apparently). Bought them on Ebay and had Falken HS449s fitted today...

Opinions?

I am in two minds as to what to do.

The options are the following:
- Buy the BMW winter wheel pack (17" wheels - 3 week lead time)but my garage has no storage left! £1540
- Buy 4 OEM wheels and get them fitted by local garage. £1672 + tyres £629.60 + fitting
- Buy 2 front wheels for the rear and have 4 x 18" winter tyres installed across the board (£816 for wheels, £629.60

Not sure if I want to go for a non OEM product given that it may impact my insurance in case of accident.

I've put non OEM wheels on my wife's F20 and insurance isn't a problem.

They do make the car slide more but when it snows she'll be ok wink
