I am looking at purchasing a second set of alloy wheels for use with winter tyres. Considering getting some new aftermarket wheels rather than some second hand BMW alloys, as I suspect that after purchase and refurb the cost would probably be similar.

Has anyone experience of what fits?, I plan to get 18s and go with a 225 x 18 x 40 tyres all round rather than the summer staggered set up.

Some of the makes that come in searches on wheel sites at the cheaper end of the market are Dezent, AEZ, DOTZ and Diamond, anyone had any experience of these makes in terms of quality, strength etc?

I can confirm that you don't need the staggered set-up. I have the official BMW 18" winter wheel set and they are not staggered width.

Does anybody know what offset is required?

I've also heard the bolt holes are larger?

I'm in the same boat with my m lite being delivered in November

Apparently I was wrong. Having checked, I have style 385 and they are staggered - the measurements are:

Front alloy wheels: 18x7.5" ET45
Rear alloy wheels: 18x8" ET52

That's the same as the style 436M you get as standard on an M135i.

17" X3 steel wheels fit apparently; in fact most BMW 17" wheels do the only problems are with BBS-style splitties.

It does make you wonder why BMW don't offer a 17" wheel as standard with 18/19" options for those who must.

Well, actually they do. Looking at the chart the dealer sent me, there are two 17" designs offered for the M135i - Style 380 "Y-spoke" or Style 381 "Turbine".

I just find the car looks underwheeled on 17"s, so prefer not to spend a quarter of the year running around rocking the shirt-button look.

In the UK there's only one wheel offered, the 18" 436M double spoke.

I thought we were talking about winter wheels, not what wheels the car can be ordered from the factory with.

I can't imagine why you'd want the ability to have 17"s. The car rides very well on the standard 18"s, so other than slightly cheaper tyres, I can't see the benefit of them, particularly since they look noticeably worse. And it's not like 18" is particularly huge these days.

I've just emailed my dealer for a quote. Has anyone else got a price from the dealer yet?

I have been considering some aftermarket alloys for winter use; will probably do down the 18 x 7.5 route and have 225/40 18 winter tyres all round.

Would be interested to know what the BMW quote is....

I just took the lazy option and went with dealer recommendation:

M Double Spoke 270 18" with Pirelli Sottozero's

Like these: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/attachment.php?atta...

Paperwork says "for M3 & 1M" so i hope they bloody fit

Thought i was getting the above, but got these instead from dealer:

I actually prefer them. Hope they aren't a cheaper wheel, but they don't look it. Anyone know?

Those are one of the approved M135i winter options - the most expensive of the four styles actually. Having seen them on an M135i, I preferred the double-spokers.

See here (not actually on an M135i but you get the idea):

Whereas these are the double-spokers in use on my M135i last winter:

Thanks for that. Have you got all 4 out of interest?

I am not usually a fan of more intricate wheels, but these aren't too bad. They look slightly grey to me which fits with the blue car well.

For me, a simple narrow 5-spoke design would always be preferable (like the 18" Midir ones on my Volvos) but BMW seem to disagree.

I bought these BMW Sport Style 379 wheels for winter use and have Bridgestone Blizzak 205/50/17 89H winter tyres on them now

I've decided to use my 436M wheels for winter use now, as I'm getting some new wheels for summer use, so probably going to sell them on
