Hi all

Looking forward to getting my new car early November- this will be the first true sports car I have owned - don't count the Mini Cooper S! In general I note that other drivers tend to let me into their lane etc in the Mini and are generally pretty courteous - to those who have an M135i - is this the case or does the car pisspeople off?

Cheers

They're hard enough to spot over a regular 1 Series M Sport when you know what you're looking for, so 99.9% of road users will see it as just another 1 Series. It's hardly an Aventador biggrin

someone's been reading Pistonheads too much..... it might be good but it isn't a bloody sports car!

(to answer your question, you will only be despised by other road users as much as everyone else who drives a BMW)

Why are you so insecure that you give a f@@k what other people might think? If you like the car go for it.

Having recently bought a E92 335i (what are we doing in this section aaaargh) I've not noticed any rampant animosity to BMWs. There are thousands of the damn things about and most of them are pretty anonomous.

I'm guessing 99% of drivers won't have a clue what it is so will treat you the same as a 114D, if that helps!

Quite a few of the diesel ones seem to have M badges anyway.

Give it a rev and im pretty sure 99% of people will realise it ain't a diesel, but anonymity is great, I have had mine two weeks and not been bothered by anyone, as has been said a lot of road users are ignorant to what is around them etc..

Mine's in stealth mode, 5 door grey no badges and thats how I like it. Have the sports auto which is great but to be honest I would order manual next time, auto works well but you lose some involvement IMHO. If you are expecting a sports car then a manual is probably nearer the mark. It aint really a sports car but it is a very practical family hatch with some oomph. Having said that I was cruising up the A303 following a 5 series estate on a '12 plate who pulled over on a dual carriageway section and as I came alongside and floored it he did the same and there was nothing in it even into silly speeds, I only just pulled past. Let him by a little later and noticed that he too had no rear badge and twin nearside exhaust only so I had no idea but suspect it was a 530d or possibly 535d but was impressively quick for a large wagon. So M135i is quick, but not that much quicker than a big diesel 5 series and certainly not a sportscar.

I wouldn't have thought either the 530d or 535d unless highly modded will keep up with a M135.

Possibly a 550?

Was kept honest by a 535d when in my Z4 MC once and that had a bit more power again, although less torque. Struggled to get the power down cleanly though, and the 5 could have been remapped I suppose.

On the latest F10/11 5 series, twin round exhausts on opposite sides of the rear bumper is a 535d, twin large oval exhausts is the 550i.

The 5 estate had twin nearside pipes and nothing on the offside. Hence my thinking its a turbo diesel derivative. From 80'ish at cruise, then full throttle, with the momentary lapse for kickdown in comfort mode, there was absolutely nothing in it until we got to silly speeds. He chased me, I chased him and really unless you were at Bluntingthorpe I dont think there was any significant difference in speed/acceleration on the basis that we were at 60-80 and then full throttle as traffic cleared. On a public road both cars are plenty quick enough and I expect the M135i would pull out a gap from a standing start, but the diesel mid range from 60 levelled the performance of the two cars. The point being that the M135 is great fun but not really a 'sports' car.......
