You dislike the car? Can I ask for what reasons
Loads of things really, but they all come down to lack of driver involvement, lack of decent setup (ARBs/suspension/LSD) or over-nannying from the car. It's just not sporty enough for my liking, so now I just pretty much pootle around in Eco mode most of the time.

This ^^

I have an F30 330d and completely agree. I've just put my winters back on and the difference in surefootedness in the cold/wet is remarkable.
I got an F25 X3 3.0d M Sport in September so still getting used to it. It was BMW AUC and came with fresh Pirelli's all round - more than happy with the handling and grip playing around on a few testing handling roads and passes in the lakes. I just happened to find a set of BMW winter wheels / sottozero tyres on ebay for £450 and jumped at the chance to try them out. I even managed to get to the dales at the weekend, -1.5c and snow / ice on Buttertubs, so a good test. They are impressive. Standing water, no pulling, slush, snow, ice no problem just plenty of grip. Being a loon can over power them but the margin is so much greater than normal tyres. I especially noticed the increased lateral grip pulling a tighter line on wet corners.

I'm sold on them! I'm now looking for some for my wife's F30 325d but can't get near the price I paid for the X3 ones.

I have a set of winters from an older BMW - wondering if they'll be ok to fit my M135i.

The tyres are 225/40 R18 x4 but on rims that say 8*18 inside
- the standard fronts on mine are 7.5 so will this set of winter be ok?

It will largely depend on the wheel offset I'd imagine
