As the owner of a current 'proper' M-car and an M135i, I'd suggest that the 'M-Lite' deserves it's place in here as much as any other recent M-car!

Funny that proper M car owners seem to want to raise this all the time. As if M135i owners are somehow M car pretenders? I couldn't care less where the threads are and am fully aware that my car isn't an M car. Who cares? Have a vote on where the threads go and be done with it.

According to BMW UK's site, the M135i isn't an 'M' car:

An M135i is 30% M, an M3/4/5/6 is 80%. The little cars certainly feel pretty "M" to me ;-)

If an M3/4/5/6 is 80% M then what's 100%?

The 1M as it only has the M on the back tongue out .

Nowt. They all have a "base" car to start with.

The original M1.

The reason the 1 Series M Coupe could not be called the M1.

Base car in that they share the same body shape.

I agree, a load of M wannabes trying to make their car better than it really. Is. M135i is not an M car at all. It is not conceived, designed, refined or built by M division.

Nobodies saying it isn't an excellent car.

What it isn't, however, is an M car. It's not belittling it, it's just a fact.

Agreed. It's a fantastic car, but BMW do not consider it to be an 'M' car and neither should we IMO.

Errrmmm, yes. A C63 AMG still starts as a C class base. Same with the Audi and Porker (although the GT3 isn't a semi separate "breed" - it's made wholly by Porsche). AMG and RS and the M Division don't make complete cars - surely you know that?!
