Would be v interested to hear your feedback. would love to own one as a replacement for my much missed 1M. I realise not the same car in many ways, but the M235i seems to tick many boxes!
Took the M235i out for a 30 minute test spin; A roads, town, and a dual-carriageway.

Let's just say, I loved it. Couldn't stop grinning for an hour afterward.

Will try to do a more comprehensive write-up later.

Little disappointed with the deals on the table, or lack thereof. Sales chap said no franchises are offering signifcant deals at the moment as the 2s are flying off the shelves.
When pushed, he looked up Broadspeed deals for the same setup, and the best found was ~£400 off the list price. He said if I could make a decision fairly quickly, he could double that, so a little under a grand off list is the best he could do.

APR at 5.9% for PCP deal (BMW Select)

He also said he'd match any other formal deal I could find, from online contract deals or other franchises - sooo ... if anybody knows any good deals out there? biggrin

Which part is inaccurate, that there are no significant deals at other franchises, or that they're flying off the shelves? smile

Have you tried Tony at Berry Heathrow(BMW)? Thats where I got mine from, got a fantastic deal.

It is a fantastic car, only thing I'm not sure about is the auto. It's fantastic but I do feel a bit disconnected from the car sometimes. Would probably go back to manual to be honest in my next car.

One thing I really like about it which hasn't been prasied much is the traction control. It's been awhile since I've been in a RWD and with a lot of torque low down I thought it might be a handful. But the TC is great, especially in sport+ as it allows a bit of slip. Hasn't taking me long at all to build up confidence and have real fun with the car, even in the wet.

BMW Heathrow ... yep i know the dealership. Thanks for the tip, will give them a bell.

Interested to hear more about why you're not liking the auto.

I'm normally a manual purist, having never run an auto before. I was leaning toward taking up the M235i with the auto, given the positive reviews the 8 speed ZF gets.

I did play a bit with the box on my test run. Though the 30 minutes i had was far from extensive, in that short time i did like the box, its selection seemed right for the given situation, its kickdowns were fun and fairly brutal, the flappy paddle flappy paddly.

But like i say am a total auto box amateur so have no yardstick for comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I don't regret getting the auto but there are still times when I miss having a manual. I was the same having never had an auto before getting the BMW but I can't fault it, really smooth seamless shifts in comfort and very quick shifts in sport and when you put it in manual it won't shift for you like other autos. Also just realised there is a button at the bottom of the pedal so when you put your foot right down and press it in manual and drop a gear it will drop to the lowest gear possible, pretty smart feature rather than having to go down all the gears when wanting to floor it.

Plus its cheaper road tax and better on the fuel having auto. My next car is going to be a porsche I think, I want a real drivers car for the road which is why I think I would go back to manual as I am never stuck in traffic on my commute anymore which is where I found the auto a god send. But I think most cars are going to be auto in the future, look at the GT3. I do love the auto but always going to miss manual now and again.

Wow!

Gave Tony & his team at Berry a bell today, after reading more about his cracking deals on babybmw.net, where his dealership is a sponsor.

Spoke for a while, specced up my desired M235i. They came back with some numbers, and the monthly PCP deal they've managed to lay on for me is almost exactly 25% cheaper per month over a 36 month term than the other franchise i'd originally spoken to. smile

I'm quite astonished.

F**k that, i'm completely blown away.

Have an appointment at 10am tomorrow morning to sign on the dotted line. I'll know the exact discount on list he's managed when i see the numbers then.

marcella, thanks for the original pointer mate. I need to buy you a large beer.

Haha no worries mate.

Yeah it is amazing the deals that guy can pull! My wife works for a local BMW dealer and even with family discount they couldn't get close to Tony's deal. They were convinced he was having me on when I told them the deal, said he must of not have spec'd any of the options I wanted haha!

Been looking at getting a M235i myself, what sort of monthly figure will you be paying?

So out of interest roughly what sort of percentage discount off list did you manage to achieve? Still no sign of BMW's making a reappearance on Drive The Deal and Broadspeed are offering next to no discount on the M235i. Having had the same engine in an E92 335i I can certainly see the appeal in the smaller, lighter, M235i; should be an excellent motor!

Could you email me too please, thanks.....

If decent discounts to be had would be very very tempted! This time last year people were getting up to 17-18% very max off list price for the M135i (15% seemed quite achievable then with people having to really push to get up to late teens discount). I think the reason for the huge discounts were down to dealers trying to maximise their sales numbers/targets before year end, seemed Jan onwards the discounts dropped off, but then all the amazing lease deals (non BMW) came to market (for the M135i)....

As far as I remember at the time BMW offered 5.9% APR for the M135i, seems to be the same rate being offered now for the M235i which is a very good APR rate - an APR rate much less than that I guess the manufacturers are subsidising (like the Merc deals).
