F10 M5 warranty work - what's yours had done?
Discussion
3 months in and love the car, it really is everything and more than I thought it would be, however a few niggles......
Driver side indicator is always full of moisture - being replaced
Irritating rattle in drivers door right by the lock button which drives me mad - I assume door card off or a bash it with a hammer!
There was a small indentation in the front passenger seat side bolster under the leather which looks unsightly and frankly I'm surprised the seat got through QC - front seat out, taken apart with stuffing sorted and back together.
Other than that, brilliant.
And other owners, what have you had done (or needs doing)?

In for a service tomorrow (35,000 miles) and so far nothing major to report.
I do see the odd 'back pressure' error every few months but always in the same conditions... cold engine, low RPM and about 5 minutes into a journey. No secondary indication of any problem and it clears itself after about 10 minutes.
I'll mention it (again) at the dealership but I believe this is a software issue rather than a real problem.
Other than that a perfect car!

Drivetrain error within first few weeks which turned out to be a faulty injector. Car off the road for 8 days, injector replaced & fault never came back.
Went in for a free Winter health check & they spotted an oil leak from i believe the oil filter seal (i'd not spotted anything), replaced said part & all's well. Also they spotted a Tyre Sensor fault during the health check but they couldn't replicate so must be a gremlin.
Still loving the car & she gets her 1st of several shakedowns next week as i'm taking her out on Blyton Park.

Currently at 30000 miles.
Minor issues: Wheel nuts rusted and replaced without asking at routine service. Switch next to Idrive controller marked media not working and replaced.
Major issue: note for caution. Driving down busy A road; car suddenly cut out as if ran out of petrol, came to stop in road very quickly and car would not allow access to neutral gear setting to push off road, went into park automatically and would not come out of park. BMW emergency service and rescue guy didn't know how to manually get car in neutral, eventually had to be dragged up onto pick up, this set off tracker so was reassuring to know that worked! anyway the fuel pump had failed, all replaced under warranty but was scary that car cut out and came to stand still so quickly without any prior warning and would not allow neutral to be selected, if had happened in fast lane of motorway I dread to think. I was causing a major obstruction in busy road for some time. Apparently there is a manual override to put it in neutral somewhere under drink holders, worth checking out in case similar happens to you.
Outstanding issue; drivers side rear passenger door will not open from inside even if unlocked, need to get sorted at next service.
and while I'm at it if any of you took out allow wheel insurance cover via Inchcape main dealer network when buying car be advised that you have to notify them within 14 days of incident rather than just mention it when you take car in to service. Also they have some restrictions regarding diamond cut alloys.

I'm not sure if it also selects neutral, but there is a switch to disengage the parking brake if the switch fails under the front cup holder.
"Park is engaged when the engine is turned off and the gearbox is not in neutral. If the parking brake ever needs to be released manually, this is accomplished inside the front cup holder by removing the cover and sliding the parking lock lever as shown."

Similar thing (under the gear lever gaiter) on the e92 M3 DCT would put it in neutral but i don't think it applies to the new F-series cars.
My SLS also had no way to get it out of park and, when I got a flat battery in my garage, I couldn't roll the car to a position where I could jump start it. I had to call Mercedes breakdown who confirmed that the only way to get the car moving is to take the wheels off and fit freewheeling hubs, which would then facilitate the ability to push it.
Seems the new BMW's are similar and it's utter madness.

OK, not an M5 but similar enough.....the only problems I've had with my M6 have been surrounding the seats, which have frankly been a nightmare. Partly my own fault for specifying Individual Opal White and I can comfortably say, never again!
First problem is with the leather itself - basically, I've never known a leather to a) soak up jean dye so easily, and then be nearly impossible to clean and b) be so soft that after just a couple of thousand miles it started to wear on some high spots. Another couple of k's later and the wear is even more noticeable. The latter means BMW have agreed to replace the leather on both front seat base and backrests but, as it's 'Individual', the bits have been on backorder for months! I am exceptionally careful with the interior and clean it every week so I'm not sure what the long term solution is to the second problem - I can see no reason why the replacement leather won't do the same? As for the jeans dye transfer, I have bought some of this to apply to the new leather after it's fitted - it appears to be the only product dedicated to and guaranteed against dye transfer on light colours.

We'll see - I've tried some on my current leather before it's replaced to make sure it doesn't feel or look different and whether it's actually worth putting on when the leather is replaced.
The second problem with the seats is the lumbar support on both front seats - they keep blowing the fuse. BMW don't seem to have a fix for it yet - they replace the fuse, the lumbar works for a few hours then it stops!
And finally, the drivers chair has just started making a clicking noise from where the seatbelt comes out every time I accelerate and brake. This is just behind my ear so whilst not very loud, it's proximity to me makes it very annoying! Problem is, because the seat belts are part of the seat, the dealer reckon any replacement part comes as part of....a whole new seat! They're investigating this week to see exactly whats needed.
So if my car didn't actually have any seats, it would've been totally faultless!

not done that many miles yet but needs the damn squeeky brakes looking at !
Mine started doing that fairly recently and I can't get rid of it. Tried stomping on the brakes at various speeds but doesnt really seem to work. Aside from that I have no issues at 7.5K and 3 months An update.....
Still more work being done
Rear inner lights fitted incorrectly and both cracked - replaced
Drivers side indicator full of moisture - replaced
Passenger side indicator discoloured black plastic - replaced
Rear passenger side suspension removed and refitted as it should be
I'm not fussed, the mileage and time to the dealers is a pita and I'm going to write to BMW to make them aware I'm deducting mileage from my contract.
Still a great car and I'm hoping these are niggles.

Cheers. I'm fussy too. The worst thing is day one a nasty stone chip on the nose and noticed the other day on the roof now too. But that's the beauty of contract hire, all the other cars I've owned if this happens it does my head in.
I'm pretty sure that's why I'm not fussed about the faults, however as I stated I will be asking for a mileage allowance due to warranty work.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
