F10 M5 - insurer insists on cat 5 tracker
Discussion
In case it helps anyone else, I just had exactly the same issue getting my new F10 M5 insured - many insurers' insistence on a Cat5 tracker. I really don't see the point of these : I get that thiefs are going to target your keys, but if I need two pieces of plastic rather than one to get my car started and go out in it, where am I going to keep those two pieces of plastic ? Together. Same place. Both in my jacket pocket, when I'm at a restaurant, or both on the same shelf at home. The notion of having to hide one of them and dig it out each time I use the car is crazy. Ongoing hassle that I really don't need.
So - shopped around and found that Aviva would cover it without any tracker. I'm going to put a Cat-6 one in anyway but Aviva have been great (actually would recommend them as we use them for other cars & home and like them). Privilege said that at my valuation of the car (£80K) they have to refer it to the underwriters and the premium jumped from £360 to £820 (!).

Wonder why I'm paying £600 as I'm similar to you.
I'm doing less miles & can is garaged when not being used.TBH, my renewal from Tesco came through at about £420 & i was about to just accept it but thought i'd better have a mooch at the price comparison sites. Did just that & Tesco came out the cheapest at £335 i think so i called them & they did the right thing & adjusted my auto renewal to the lower figure
