Waiting for Evolve to release a solution for this...
There's already a solution out there. The guy in the thread below is very resourceful and there are already a number of his kits in circulation. The quality is great as well.

Get yourself a new battery and save yourself all the hassle I've recently had (E90 M3). My car has been to two dealers for dsc failure, flat tyre monitor failure etc for software resets 3 times this year. At the end of my tether I changed the battery and the cars been faultless since! Touches big piece of wood now... biggrin

The later E60 M5s might have had an AGM battery? Mine didn't and, like I said, it charged
up fine with the Halfords charger.

If you buy something like a CTEK, it comes with plugs which allows you to charge with bonnet closed.
But the battery in the M5 is located in the boot....????

Not sure about E60 M5 but my E92 M3 have charging points in the engine bay.

When you get the charger, connect it to the under-bonnet terminals.
Connecting it directly to the battery in the boot (apart from being a complete PITA) confuses the cars electronics and it can get all huffy.
Sort of like "Who's been charging MY battery?" and then throw up spurious msgs.

Even then be prepared for something like HIGH BATTERY DISCHARGE after disconnecting the charger.
The electronics read a sudden voltage drop (as charger removed, or even during the charger's own cycle) and that triggers the warning.
Nothing to worry about.
