20-odd mpg from yo M5s?
I hadn't realised the M-division had produced an E39 M5d!
If anything, my consumption's going south. Current readout indicating 16.5 which is dire but I must say, quite big and exceedingly clever.
Sir Edward Mathieson.
D'ya know, I run wth an mpg of 22-23!!!. I have now run the car for 4500 miles and have just topped it up for the first time with oil. It was down about three quarters of the diptick which I believe is 750ml.
Do you see that button marked sport on your console? Well turn it off sometimes why don't ya.
I switch it on and stick the car in second for every stop , but whats the point of all 400 when your cruis'n?
Seriously though 4500 miles has seen me through a brand new set of rear tyres .
Them Audis don't like it up em Mr Mannering
Tell you what, Julian, I hardly ever use the sport button anymore.
I've found that a chronically unsympathetic right hoof and addiction to m-way launch pads ~ er, slip roads ~ is perfectly adequate for the aforementioned profligacy.
Also, the natural 'baulkiness' of the gear change is worsened by the selection thereof.
Anyway, Manu reckons the Tubi's good for 12-18 bhp more and placebo effect or not, it do most verily feel more rapacious in it's lungings than before.
On, ON!

It is, indeed but fitting ain't the stroll in the park I'd thought: in fact, I'm having (hopefully) the final 'nip & tuck' to perfect the installation this morning...
Sound-wise, it's no great revelation although there's a distinctly meatier throb on start up and idle but a colleague informs me it's rather spiffing from outside.
The main thing is a pronounced improvement in pick-up, both from the chequered down to gumballic progressment - each flex of the anvil pivot yields even greater Nascaristic thrust than before - it's a true thug on the open road now - a real pummeller of the tarmac, precisely as EVO have just presently concluded.
Also, the thick rimmed pipes now scream "cheap angel dust" more voaclly than before and not unlike the extrovert protrusions of an E55 AMG, not dissimilarly bling either.
Really sets the car orf just so, especially after yesterday's ionic wash fest.
Blake, Jesse, cannot afford a haircut.

bloody hell, so you mean my poxy 523i gets the same as an M5.
Something has to change.
My old 520i was awful on fuel economy, the comp said and average of between 18-20 with combined town and country driving.
I bought an E34 524tds instead and it was quicker and used half the fuel!
Now have the 318 ti Sport and it's very good on fuel if you pootle along but guzzles a bit more when pressing on a bit. I've only had it for a month or so but I'm really impressed with how lively it is.
