It was on 18" wheels and ride was excellent compared to my 1M. Firm and well controlled, but no crashing or banging over the bumpy bits.
intresting read..

If you get yourself some e90 m3 18"s the ride and handling is vastly improved on the 1M - along with some geometry tweeks..
As I only use my 1M as an occasional weekend car, I'm not too concerned with the overly firm ride. I recall autocar also said ride improved dramatically with smaller wheels with winter tyres. Does look good on the 19's though ;-)

M cars are meant to be the best every day cars available.

It's only really the special editions that you could argue could be more occasion cars, e46 CSL etc.

Those of us who use other cars for daily duties probably do it for cost reasons, rather than car capabilities.

Found this ... interesting.

I have a Z4 35iS (well I am in the process of changing it for a newer hopefully more reliable one!) and the comments re the N54 1M engine which my car shares versus the newer N55 engine are interesting. I have tried an M135i and thought it was an incredible little engine but lacking at the top end compared to my 35iS ... but maybe more spritely in the midrange. I put this down to 1 variable vane turbo vs 2 turbos + the 7 speed DCT versus 8 speed auto.

The comment re an M235i feeling quicker than a Z4 35i didn't surprise either - my Z4 35iS to me felt quite a bit quicker than a 35i yet on paper there is not much in it.

The M235i is the same as my 35iS to 62 at 4.8 ... so if my new Z4 35iS for any reason falls through I may have to have a closer look at them smile
