Hi,

I know there was a facelift for the E90 2009 model with e.g. updated tail lights and new iDrive.

Are there also late 2008s out there with this facelift? I have seen a few ads for 2008 models that seem to have the new tail lights and the additional buttons around the iDrive control button, but wasn't sure if that means that they have mis-quoted the model year or if this update came out late 2008?

Thanks

I believe some very late 2008 cars were the LCI version with the updated I drive and tail lights.

However, when i was recently searching for my car, I did come across one or two 59 plate cars that were pre-LCI.

On older models you can buy the facelifted rear lights and recode them.

Retro fitting iDrive is a bit of a pain but also possible.

You can retrofit the LED tails to the coupes quite easily, however on the Saloon it requires an LCI bootlid as the inner tails are different too.

I wasn't looking to buy that one, just showed it as an example of a 2008 with the new tail lights and iDrive.

Believe the facelift for E90 M3 was same time as the series cars from September 2008, new rear lights and iDrive.

However there must have been additional updates as some cars post LCI have chrome slats in the kidney grills such as that black one linked above and newer cars '09 perhaps even '59 and later have black slats instead.

My E92 M3 was a 59 plate sept 2009 model and it had the later idrive but had chrome slats and older rear lights.

If you have a look at the centre dash on that example you can see it is the pre-LCI layout based on the location of the heated seat buttons therefore the I Drive and tail lights must have been a retrofit.

The kidney grills are the easiest part to change/mod. I have Oct 2010 car and have chrome kidney grills.

Prices have gone down a lot so I'd try to get a post LCI car for the updated iDrive. I've heard the 2012+ models also have better iDrive system with apps etc.

Not necessarily. I have a late 2008/'58 M3 Convertible with Newer iDrive but the heated seat switches are on the lower centre console. Car is AUC and hasn't had the newer hard drive etc installed as a retrofit.

Wrong, the first of the LCI cars had the pre LCI heater controls with the heated seat switches seperate.

The later heater control panel was introduced in 2009 on 2010 build year cars
