F10 M5 OEM exhaust mod.
Discussion
Right, I love the car but it could do with more volume pootling round at low revs with the windows down.
On the V8 M3 you could cut a flap on the upper surface of the back boxes, sleeve the perforated pipes within and then have it sounding amazing for £300.
Bonus was stock appearance kept and no one could tell visually unless you took off the exhaust.
Anyone tried this on the F10?
This is our exhaust cut open:
I'm guessing under the wool on the right side are perforated pipes which could be sleeved?

I get that the Comp Pack M5 exhaust is louder and sounds better. Some say this is due to different / less baffles in the rear exhaust sections.
Does anyone know if the amount of insulation material inside is the same?
Would there be any benefit in cutting open the rear silencers on a Comp Pack car and removing any insulation material? Would this make it even louder / sound even better?

I spoke to http://www.backdraftmotorsport.com/ who said that they could do this to the M5 but just didn't ever get around to going to see them about it.

Did they give you a price for the job?I'd be really interested in seeing a couple of pics of the internals (before / after) if anyone does this!
What is the general consensus on the best way to go to get the best sound from this mod anyway?:
Option a) - Cut open rear silencer(s) and remove insulation material, weld shut.
Option b) - Cut open rear silencer(s), remove insulation, cut out perforated pipes and weld in straight pipes instead, leave out insulation material, weld shut.
Option c) - Cut open rear silencer(s), remove insulation, cut out perforated pipes and weld in straight pipes instead, replace insulation material, weld shut.
Option d) - Cut open rear silencer(s), remove insulation, wrap/cover perforated pipes, leave out insulation material, weld shut.
Option e) - Cut open rear silencer(s), remove insulation, wrap/cover perforated pipes, replace insulation material, weld shut.
There seem to be 5 different ways of doing this mod, which became popular through the US forums for the E92 M3. Each has his/her justifications on why their way is the best, I just wondered if there is a popular consensus on which sounds best / gives the most impressive results?

It really depends what it's like inside whether or not it's reversible. Although, do you think anyone who's not an 'M car' driver would really be able to notice when you hand it back? Unless they had another F10 M5 sitting next to it to compare it to, most people would just think that was the way it was meant to sound would they not?
If you cut out the perforated pipes you would need to install straight (solid) pipes in their place... but I don't know how easy this would be without seeing detailed photos of the inside of the exhaust. I would say wrap would be more easily removed, but then I've also heard people say that you can just leave the perforated pipes, and that it's removing the insulation that creates the effect. To add to the confusion I've heard other people say to weld in straight pipes and then put the insulation back in!
I'm not really sure what to believe is best?
