Needs some fettling, especially the steering, but once its in the garage, the engine is coming out and the steering sortied.

Throttle bodies need synching, and a whole host of other little bits. I've budgeted 5k to get it back to where it should be...watch this space ....

While the engine is out, you might want to refresh the cooling system as mine had about 2kg of 'grit' in there probably from filling up with tap water for 100k miles (not by me I may add). Also wise to check out the wiper motors/linkage as it's a pain to get to with the engine in situ.

How are the dampers, SLS, calipers?

Dampers will go off to be refurbed, need to get it on a ramp to have a good poke. Running gear is strong (Probably why i got nicked for speeding bringing it home biggrin )

The intention is to pull the engine and go right through every bit and get it right.

There's no hurry, it was bought as a toy. New double garage soon (There's a house with it apparently) so once its in, the spanners will come out. Looking forward to it.

I used to own an Orinoco LE, but this isn't mine. Enjoy - phenomenal cars!

Still a really good looking car.

I can't help but feel the simple elegance of the earlier cars is so much nicer that the more recent stuff from the past 15 years or so.

Best of luck with it! Great cars, with IMO the best engine BMW have put in one of their own road cars in the last 30 years

After a little run through the countryside just now with a few forays into 7k territory, i'm inclined to agree biggrin.

Looks like steering boxes are no longer available, so shall contact ZF to see if they'll recon it.

Well, after being a bit busy with a house move, finally got the steering sorted.

Just wondering what grade of oil you're using? Can't make it out in the pic

Upon a recommendation from a previous owner, I'm thinking of going with (fully synthetic) 15w40 at next oil change and see how it runs on it

awright roofer,

lovely looking car you have there.

Who is refurbing your dampers?
I have just replaced all hydraulic pipes and found 2 of the struts leaking.

Also have you had a chance to test your refurbed steering box, if so how is it?

There's a company in Poland. Google BMW edc refurb. Steering is heaven, I can now use the wheel to change direction rather than sending the front a text.
