Hi guys, no matter how I drive my M5 I cannot achieve higher than 12.7 mpg.
Most of my driving is on B roads and having heard other owners achieving 19 mpg I'm starting
to wonder whether there is something wrong with my car!?
Anyone else have similar returns even when when not pushing hard?

Around the doors I get 11 - 14 mpg

I regularly do a run to leeds from newcastle (75 - 80 mph) and get 25 - 26 mpg so it can be done.

Have you checked the iDrive to confirm that the mpg figure is in miles per imperial gallon?

While driving press the BC button on the mpg read out for 2 seconds. You will get your mpg read out. On a long journey you should see 20 mpg. Only stop start driving sees it hitting sub teens.

I did 150miles on £50 and could have done another 30 miles if i didnt do the town driving for large parts. Not bad for 38 litres of unleaded.

What sort of effective rage does that give?

My M5 is on 15.8mpg average that's mostly short journeys of no more than 2 or 3 miles as not had the chance to use it much the last few weeks.

Have you reset the mpg calculator in the idrive? If it hasn't been reset in a long time and it was all town driving during that period, you're not going to bring the average up.

Petrol pump rage I would imagine.

To the OP I would do some brim to brim calculations rather than rely on the OBC.

Have you checked by calculating mpg calc yourself?

What miles do you get out of a tank and how many litres?

5.0 NA 10 cylinders - not known for its economy and I rarely got more than 14mpg. Small tank further ruined the experience. Job to get from London to Manchester on one tank.

Surely not unless you are thrashing it to within an inch of its life?

I got 25mpg from Huddersfield to Sheffield and back to Huddersfield today.

Only town driving kills economy. On a run they are 'reasonable'

The reading is 12.7 and that's the highest I ever recall it. Considering only 20% of my driving is in town this doesn't quite add up.
I've reset the calculator so I'll see if this makes any difference. I'd struggle to achieve 100 miles on just £50!
What could cause the car to burn more fuel then it should?

I've never really calculated to be honest as I don't drive it that much.
The reading is low and I always seem to be filling up!!

I had a quick look but couldn't find this setting.
What does it come under?

Wills2 and p1tse, won't be easy to make calculations as I don't drive that much and too lazy to work it out!
