Is it me or have M3 prices hit a natural peak? The cars have risen of course in the past few years but the toppy cars i.e. £30k ish for a good standard car seems to be the maximum. Those for sale do not seem to be flying off the shelves.
Likewise, I think air cooled "normal" 911 (sub £40k level) seem to have levelled somewhat.

The trouble is with cars like a "normal" E30 M3 vs say a Sport Evo is that they cost as much to maintain as their more expensive relative (rare parts excepted). You spend a lot more as a % of the value maintaing a £30k car than you do a an £80k one. When cars are going up in value people aren't worried about maintenance costs which is why they were cheap before.

I don't want to say that the party's over but with the Asian economy not doing so well and with prices having risen, have we seen a peak? If someone wants a track machine, an E30 M3 at £30k is ridiculous when you could have an Exige etc.
If it is part of a collection and you always wanted one etc. then fair enough but otherwise they are starting to seem like a poor choice IMO.

Haven't noticed too many scrappy road cars to convert though. Schermerhorn said:
Are there actually buyers out there for these or is it mostly speculators trying to cash in?
As a previous e30M3 owner I've been reading this thread with great interest, I do fancy getting another e30M3 when I can justify one and when I have the space. My car was a standard 1987 2.3 (195bhp)
In my opinion people are just trying to cash in. The e30M3 is a great car but they (in my opinion) are not worth the prices currently being asked for.
They are costly to maintain.
They have rust issues that can cost mega bucks to put right (scuttle panel, jacking points, wheel arches...)
I'll run and hide now :-)
Before you all disagree, there is a sport evo in sales for £92K. Just think what £92K could get you and if you think its worth £92K great, would you buy it ?and do you hope its going to continue rising?

I'm not sure about Sport Evo, but lesser models are definitely selling. Fact is demand outweighs supply when it comes to E30 M3. Especially here in the UK.
I've seen quite a few lesser models advertised for quite a long time.maybe sellers are happy to hang on as long as it takes
If you thought £92,000 was optimistic, look what this crackpot in Germany wants for his

i'm on my third e30 m3.
as a current owner i'm happy with how the prices are, and i don't think they've peaked yet, far from it.
but i dont care what happen's with the market or prices, as i dont plan, or want to be without one, even if the market crashed
and they ended up only being worth a grand.

As per Warsteiner, although it's nice that values increased, I wouldn't be without mine if it was worth a few hundred quid.
Cars are worth different amounts to different people I guess? What else I could have for the money isn't an issue, although I have had a look sometimes. In fact, I sold a previous M3 to scratch an itch, regretted it and bought another. Not a mistake I will make again.
Values are set my the market and I think Barney @ Classic Heroes has been around these cars to know it better than most. He's probably sold more than most too.
